The 2022 Sunshine State Showdown hosted teams in the 17U division all the way down to the 10U division. It was fun to see some of the younger players in 12U division competing hard and having fun. The 12U division welcomed eight teams (CFE 12U, Inspir8tion Basketball 2028, Jupiter Jaguars 6th, Miami Suns 12U, New Wave Basketball 12U, Orlando Basketball Club 6th, Tampa Thunder 2028 Navy, Tampa Thunder 2028 White. Here are some of the top individual players in the 12U division that stood out with their scoring ability.
The Miami Suns 12U squad made it all the way to the championship game before falling to Central Florida Elite 12U. Throughout the weekend, the Suns got contributions from several players on their roster but the backcourt duo of Arianna Robinson Arianna Robinson 5'4" | CG Miami Country Day | 2028 FL and Isabella Bonilla were consistent in filling up the box score. Robinson and Bonilla both have the ability to play the PG and SG position with the ability to knock down open shots, attack off the dribble and both players give the ball up selflessly to the open player. Robinson break out game was her 15 point performance, accounting for over half the Suns points in their 27-21 win over the Jupiter Jaguars while Bonilla came out swinging out of the gates on Friday dropping 12 points in their blowout win over Inspir8tion 4th, shooting a high percentage, getting to the rim, going a perfect 3/3 from the free throw line and even knocking down a 3!
Amelia Dammann (Tampa Thunder 2028 White) – Class of 2028
Damman paced the Tampa Thunder 2028 squad in scoring all weekend, scoring in double digits in all 3 games! The young player was fun to watch, as she played hard and aggressive on both ends of the floor and has a solid overall offensive skill set. Just in the 6th grade, Dammann has a ton of potential and will be great to see her development throughout middle school and into high school!
Olivia Lowry (Tampa Thunder 2028 Navy) – Class of 2028
With Tampa Thunder fielding two teams in the 2028 division, Lowry was the bright spot for the Tampa Thunder 2028 Navy squad including an impressive double digit performance to start the weekend in a 51-4 blowout win over Orlando Basketball Club 6th! In the game, Lowry got it done in the paint, finishing well at the rim on attacks off the dribble, offensive rebounds and passes to her down low.
Winnie Mesidor (CFE 12U) – Class of 2028
Central Florida Elite 12U took home the championship in the 12U division and got a ton of contributions from several players. While the roster is very talented, Mesidor stood out on the offensive end, showcasing her ability to consistently putting the ball in the bucket. The young ’28 prospect plays with aggressiveness, energy, passion and has fun on the court and gets her teammates to play hard and aggressive with her which is fun to watch!
Sloan Warlow (Class of 2028) and Ella Mott (Class of 2029) both dropped double digits for the Jupiter Jaguars 6th grade squad at the 2022 Sunshine State Showdown. The talented duo did their best to compete their squad competitive, going 1-2 at the event with a convincing win over Tampa Thunder 2028 White and a close loss to Miami Suns 12U before falling Sunday to Tampa Thunder 2028 Navy.
