Continue ReadingAs I traveled the state there have been many high-quality performances throughout the season. The following is my top list of Class 1-A players that will make a large and important contribution to their teams success next season;
1- Kiley Alman Kiley Alman 5'7" | CG Norfolk | 2023 State AR , 5’8” Junior Swing Guard, Norfolk-Kiley was huge during the 2022 State Tournament. Her team won the title and she brought home the MVP trophy. She is a fearless rebounder and can hit the three with unbelievable accuracy. Watch out, Norfolk will bid for another State Title next season.
2-Brynn Washam, 5’10” Sophomore Forward, Mammoth Springs-Brynn is a great scorer. Probably the best player of many excellent players on her team. She is a catch-and-shoot three-point artist that works well without the ball. Anticipates well on defense and can lead the fast break after a steal. The future is bright at Mammoth Springs.
3-Liza Shaddy, 5’9” Sophomore Guard, Norfolk-Liza was an intricate part of Norfolk’s championship run. She is also a catch-and-shoot three-point player. But her largest asset is running the team from the point guard position. Her leadership skills allow her to score and dish. She’s like a coach on the court.
4-Adrianna Corbett, 5’9” Sophomore Guard, Mammoth Springs-Adrianna has natural leadership skills. She touches the ball in every possession and is an excellent free-throw shooter. Her ability to go right and left opens up the offense. She can get in the paint for a rebound when needed. Mammoth Springs can look to go deep again in the post-season with the ball in her hands.
5-Lila Hartness, 5’5” Sophomore Guard, Kingston-Lila split duties with a senior at point guard this past season. She now will take on the responsibility for her team in the upcoming campaign. Not a problem. She is fully capable to take on the role. She can score from the inside or outside. With some help from her classmates, Kingston can go far in the playoffs next season.
6-Jaylyn Davis, 5’8” Sophomore Guard, Mammoth Springs-Jaylyn shares duties with her teammate Adrianna Corbett. That duet could lead their team to a state championship next season. She is proficient at penetrating the lane and dishing off. Her basketball IQ is advanced for just a sophomore. Jaylyn is a very mature player that can score and rebound when needed.
7-Emma Williams, 5’9” Junior Guard, Quachita-Emma led the team in all offensive categories in the 2021-22 season. She’s strong with the ball and protects and dishes with ease. Her court awareness enables her to either take the shot or dish for the assist. Look for Emma to lead her team to the playoffs in the 2022-23 season.
8-Sara Crowe, 6’2” Sophomore Post, Mammoth Springs-Sara played an important role in the paint for the Bears. She is a very good rebounder. Sara blocks out well and can dish the outlet pass quickly for the fast break. Her contribution could get the Bears back to the championships game.
9-Ayla Hoelzman, 5’11” Freshman Post, Sacred Heart-Ayla has excellent footwork for a freshman. She can score from mid-range and rebound down low. She has room to grow and with a little bit of strength conditioning and summer ball, she should be able to denominate the paint next season. Keep your eye on this player.
10- Ta’keyla Williamson Ta’keyla Williamson 5'4" | SG Blevins | 2023 AR , 5’6” Sophomore Guard, Blevins-Ta’Keyla has an unbelievable ceiling. Her speed and quickness is off the charts. Add her game instincts with some summer AAU play, she can sharpen the skills to help her team advance to a playoff spot next season.
These are just a few of the high-quality performances I witnessed this past season. Next, I’ll review the top Class 4A-5A performers.
