We have got a chance to see the Essence at the Sunshine State Showdown and the Boo Williams Invitational Round 1 of the EYBL circuit. Here are three Essence players in the class of 2023 that have stood out in April.
Caitlin Stanley (Essence TipHayes Purple 17U EYBL) – 6’3 Forward
While Vasconcelos stands out in a crowd, so does Stanley. Although she is not 6’7, Stanley is 6’3 with broad shoulders, a rock solid build, and a great combination of athleticism and strength. She uses her height, strength, and mass well in the paint, pushing opposing players around, controlling the defensive boards, and finishing well vs contact.
Letycia Vasconcelos Letycia Vasconcelos 6'7" | C Montverde Academy | 2023 State FL (Essence TipHayes Purple 17U EYBL) – 6’7 Center
Vasconcelos presence on the court is massive. She has great size, length, and mass. 6’7 with broad shoulders, solid mobility, and a good lower base is very rare and hard to come by in women’s basketball and make Vasconcelos one of the most coveted interior players in the country. Players of Vasconcelos are often under developed and don’t always produce consistently on the court but because their size is so uncommon, you have to look at players such as her in regards to potential and now always production. What will she look like in a college player development program? What about in a strength and conditioning program that is 3-4 times a week, 12 months out of the year? We will keep our eye on Vasconcelos and monitor her progress as she gets more court time and continues to improve each month.
Bailey Gilmore Bailey Gilmore 6'3" | PF Bradwell Institute | 2023 State GA (Essence TipHayes Purple 17U EYBL) – 6’3 Wing
When you watch a game that Gilmore is playing in, her heigh and length really jump out at you! Then as you watch her play more, you get a chance to see that she has solid fundamentals, is very active and is an impact rebounder. Offensively she has some shake to her game, moving her hips and shoulders well to juke out defenders and does a good job pivoting to score to to find open players. On the glass, she is a very active rebounder who crashed the boards hard, aggressively, and consistently. She does a good job flashing into gaps and open space at the high post and plays well out of high high low game.
