I’m proud to say that I recently published my 900th article for Prep Girls Hoops. In honor of all of you for sticking with me for so many articles, I’m going to give you 9 point guards that I see having a bright future in college basketball someday. I’ll give you 3 players from the 2023 and 2024 classes.
Megan Gross Megan Gross 5'3" | PG Clare | 2023 State MI (2023, PG, Clare)
Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Class of 2023 Ranking: #83
Gross is currently starring for the Michigan Mystics Black 2023 team. She’s doing what she always seems to do……burying triples at a high clip and in clutch moments. There aren’t many players that bring more energy than Gross.
Sela Lefler Sela Lefler 5'6" | PG North Farmington | 2023 State MI (2023, PG, North Farmington)
Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Class of 2023 Ranking: #30
Lefler’s game has come so far in the last 3 years. She started out as a sharpshooting guard and has transformed into a pure point that can still bury the deep ball. Lefler’s improvements as a ball handler and passer have made her a sure thing at the next level.
Shamya Reid Shamya Reid 5'5" | PG Westfield Prep | 2023 State MI (2023, PG, Westfield Prep)
Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Class of 2023 Ranking: #18
Reid is already a top 20 ranked player in her class, but let’s be honest, she has to move up. She’s flat out a D1 talent at the point guard position. Reid can break down some of the best defenders in the midwest and it can be argued that she’s been the best player on the floor when playing against high major prospects this spring.
Alena Blumberg Alena Blumberg 5'9" | CG Dexter | 2025 State MI (2024, PG, Dexter)
Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Class of 2023 Ranking: #133
Don’t pay attention to the number above, because it doesn’t do her justice. Blumberg is a sure thing at the next level in my opinion. She’s steady as can be and plays with a high basketball IQ and gets the ball to where it needs to be.
Emma Bruwer Emma Bruwer 5'9" | PG NorthPointe Christian | 2024 State MI (2024, PG, Lowell)
Lowell has some very real talent and Bruwer is a big part of that. What makes her a sure thing at the next level? I’d say above all else, it’s her dedication to improvement and team success. She’ll play whatever role is needed from her, both in high school and in grassroots basketball. And believe me, Bruwer fills every role with skill and toughness.
Hailey Freshcorn Hailey Freshcorn 5'8" | PG Columbia Central | 2024 State MI (2024, PG, Onsted)
Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Class of 2023 Ranking: #36
Freshcorn has been absolutely dominating so far this grassroots season with MSF Flight. She can handle pressure with her ball handling and decision making. When Freshcorn gets hot from beyond the arc, she’s a bona fide game changer. She brings the leadership, work ethic, and team first attitude that college coaches desire from their lead guard.
