The Upward Stars 2023 squad finished the weekend (3-1). The squad received some strong play behind Riley Stack Riley Stack 6'5" | SF Wren | 2023 State SC , Hailey Chiles Hailey Chiles 6'3" | C Legacy Early College | 2023 State SC , newcomer Laila Hankerson Laila Hankerson 5'6" | PG K.O.D. Skills Academy | 2023 NC , Kimyah Foggie Kimyah Foggie 5'10" | SF Legacy Early College | 2023 State SC and Trinity Vance Trinity Vance 5'10" | SG Legacy Early College | 2024 State SC .
Peighton Jambor Peighton Jambor 6'2" | PF Berkeley | 2023 State SC went down with an injury prior to the first game and didn’t play all weekend long.
Stack recently picked up an offer La Salle University after her play this past weekend at the Adidas 3SSB. Stack a rangy forward and currently #2 in the 2023 Palmetto State Class attends Wren HS. Riley has the ability to alter and challenge shots on the defensive end of the floor.
Chiles a left-handed post showed some nice touch around the cup with her soft hands. Claflin University (SC) NCAA D2 program recently offered her and Hankerson after the event according to Head Coach RJ Booker. Hailey can really carve out space down and has the ability to play face-up to the cup at times while knocking down a short jumper. Hailey will drop a nice turnaround jumper from time to time from 8-10 feet away.
Hankerson recently added to the squad after starting the spring with Team United. Laila didn’t play on Friday as she was competing in the State Track Meet. Hankerson brings quickness and good court awareness to the backcourt for the Upward Stars program. Laila does a good job of getting elevation off on her jump shot while really seeing the floor from out top. She helped the Rock Hill HS Lady Bearcats to a Class 5A State Championship this past season.
Foggie JUST BRINGS CONSTANT HUSTLE. She is the ultimate team player in every aspect of the game. Kimyah does all the little things that helps your team win games. Take charges, grabs a loose ball on the floor, picks up a big rebound and defends. Foggie wants to win at all costs, and she impacts the game by not scoring a ton of points or any at all at times.
Vance (2024) recently picked up an offer from the University of Houston. Trinity is very crafty with the ball in her hands if it’s creating her own shot or for others. Vance really likes to utilize a nice head-fake move while stalking the baseline at times. She has great range on her shot from behind the arc. Look for Trinity to be making a move in the next set of rankings updates here at Prep Girls Hoops.
