In this article, we’ll uncover some of the hidden talents that lies within class B and look at this year’s past sophomores soon to juniors that basketball fans need to know before next season.
Josie Jensen Josie Jensen 6'2" | C Northern Cass | 2024 State ND – (6’1/C/2024) – Northern Cass – Jensen has a lot of potential to be a great ball player. She finishes strong around the rim and has grown into being a true rim protector for the Jags. Josie showed a lot of work on her mid-range game this year and if she can consistently knock down those 15-footers she’ll be a tough player to guard. I predict she’ll be the most improved player in Region 1 come next winter.
Ellie Lucas Ellie Lucas 6'0" | PF Northern Cass | 2024 State ND – 6’0 F/C 2024 – Northern Cass – Ellie is a long and lanky prospect for the Jags. She plays more like a stretch 4 having the ability to put the ball on the court. She’s a phenomenal athlete that can bring the ball up the court to start a fast break or make the extra pass when driving to the hoop. Her role for the Jags is sure to improve next season as she enters her junior year.
Kyra Haecherl Kyra Haecherl 5'10" | PF Lisbon | 2024 State ND – 5’10/PF/2024 – Lisbon – Kyra typically plays the 4, but can stretch to the 3 spot. She’s a great cutter that takes advantage of lazy defense and has a quick first step when attacking the rim. She finishes with the best of the best and can use either hand when going up. Kyra has a solid mid-range game making opponents play her straight up. This past year Kyra averaged 10 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game. With the development for shooting outside shots, she could be a big threat for the Broncos come next season.
Kiana Lerud Kiana Lerud 5'5" | CG Maple Valley | 2024 State ND – 5’5/CG/2024 – Maple Valley – Kiana is an undersized guard with a lot of bite to her. She’s a good on-ball defender that typically plays on the opponent’s top guard. She’s quick with her hands and feet for cutting off angles and averages 2.6 steals a game. Offensively she’s a deep-range threat that you can’t leave open. Lerud will allude to the defense with fake passes or a side step into a jump shot. With a solid summer campaign, Kiana could be an X factor for the Raiders this coming season.
Iris Richman Iris Richman 5'8" | CG Maple River | 2024 State ND – 5’8/CG/2024 – Maple Valley – Iris is a knockdown shooter that comes off screens hard. She shows a high basketball IQ in decision-making on the offensive side of the ball and looks to curl or pop from screens. Richman has good body control which puts her as the deadliest shooter for the Raiders. This year she averaged just under 10 points a game and 5 rebounds. Iris will for sure be a big boost and possible team captain next year for Maple as they try and navigate through a tough Region 1 conference.
