We released an updated rankings for the class of 2022 earlier in the week. After taking a look at the top 10 and the stock risers, we now take a look at the class of 2022 Newcomers!
With over 300 players ranked in the class of 2022, here are some of the top newcomers.

Ayanna Applefield Ayanna Applefield CG Hudson | 2022 State FL (Hudson HS) – 5’4 Guard
Overall Rank: 167
Applefield had a big senior season, upping her scoring by a full 6 points per game, going from 12.8 as a Junior to 18.8 as a Senior. Her squad needed every single one of her points, as in many situations she accounted for 50-75% of her teams’ points. Her season high was 32 points vs Anclote, where she accounted for 75% of her teams’ points in a 43-71 loss. She enters the rankings at # 167.
TaNiyah Washington TaNiyah Washington PG Blountstown | 2022 State FL (Blountstown High School) – 5’5 Guard
Overall Rank: 169
Washington was very, very good this season averaging 18.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game for Blountstown High School. Washington twice dropped 37 points versus Liberty County, once in January and once in February. Washington was her teams go to scorer and a high-volume shooter all season, averaging 17+ shots per game. Washington was at her best attacking in transition and getting into the paint. She got the free throw line 6+ times per game and shot 42% from 3.
Faith Mcgowan Faith Mcgowan SF Holmes County | 2022 State FL (Holmes County) – 5’7 Guard
Overall Rank: 187
Mcgowan is a versatile perimeter player, who can play the 1, 2, or 3. She was the team’s leading scorer and rebounder averaging 17.1 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. She reached double digits in 20 of Holmes County 23 games. Her offensive play was extremely consistent recording 9 double doubles. Her play peaked at the right time, playoff time as she recorded double doubles in 5 of her teams last 7 games. Her top two individual performances were a 25 point / 20 rebound game vs Central in November leading her team to a 54-50 win and a 20 point / 17 rebound game in a close loss to Port St Joe in January.
Molly Richards Molly Richards 5'8" | SG Naples | 2022 State FL (Naples HS) – 5’8 Guard
Overall Rank: 188
Richards was a four-year player for Naples High School Molly Richards Molly Richards 5'8" | SG Naples | 2022 State FL at Naples High. This is her Senior year, and she has played varsity all 4 years. She is a 1,000-point scorer, reaching the 1K mark early in the 2021-22 season. She has averaged double digit points for three consecutive seasons. As a Senior she averaged 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 2.9 steals per game. As a Junior she Averaged 16.4 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals per game. And as a Sophomore she averaged 13.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 3.8 steals per game. She is a true leader, a tough defensive player, and had an excellent high school career. She enters the rankings at # 188.
Stephanie Orozco Stephanie Orozco SF Coral Springs HS | 2022 State FL (Coral Springs HS) – 5’7 Guard
Overall Rank: 189
Orozco was one of the top players in Broward county this season for Coral Springs. She proved to be a skilled and versatile scorer who plays hard and aggressive on both ends of the floor. Throughout the season Orozco did an excellent job creating offense from defense by picking up opponents with full court pressure, stepping into passing lanes, and playing with a ton of energy. Asharia Mcpherson Asharia Mcpherson PG Wade Christian Academy | 2022 State FL (Wade Christian) – 5’4 Point Guard
Overall Rank: 191
Don’t let Mcpherson size fool you. She may be tiny, but she is fearless and plays a lot bigger than her 5’4 frame. Mcpherson put together one of the most well-rounded Senior seasons for Wade Christian, averaging 17.1 points, 4.2 assists, and 5.2 steals per game. She led Wade Christian to a 17-10 record, with a 3-1 record in district before falling to Downey Christian in the playoffs.
Jasmine Mayes Jasmine Mayes PG Booker T Washinton | 2022 State FL (Booker T Washington) – 5’1 Guard
Overall Rank: 194
Mayes BTW squad struggled this season, but it wasn’t due to her play. She averaged 16.9 points to go along with 4.7 rebounds and 4.1 steals per game, accounting to close to 50% of her teams’ points. Mayes did most of her damage off the dribble and in the paint and is a pretty good rebounder from the perimeter position.
Payton Scholl Payton Scholl SG Sarasota Christian | 2022 State FL (Sarasota Christian) – 5’7 Guard
Overall Rank: 205
Payton led Sarasota Christian in scoring at 16.8 points per game, dropping double digits in 14/15 games and 20+ points in 6/15. Scholl floor game was balanced as she spread out her points from 2, from 3, and at the free throw line. She can play both the PG and the SG position. She does a good job filling up the stat sheet while still encouraging ball movement and sharing the ball, finding her teammates in scoring positions.

This is the fourth and final rankings for the class of 2022. We have taken a look at players performance and potential with both their High School and Travel teams. If there is a player that not included in the rankings or you feel is not ranked properly, please email us at WholeyPrepHoops@gmail.com and include Name, Height, Position, HS, Travel team, any stats available and any video available. Our goal is to cover the entire state, but we are well aware that we have not seen everyone in the state and those that we have seen, we have not seen all of them equally the same amount of time and games.

Players are ranked on their status as a college prospect.
