SubscribeIt was hot in Houston this past weekend, but the shooters in the gym for the Dynasty Classic were even hotter. There were some big-time players in the house and it was a joy to do my job. Take a look at these five players who were standouts amongst all of the really good athletes in the building.
Jamie Bean | 5-8 G | AE Red / Emmerson (TX) | 2024
I saw Jamie play a while back and when I saw her walking around the gym in warm-ups, I had to ask her what court she was going to be on and when. She is that good. Her athleticism sets her apart. She can absolutely jump out of the gym and is one of those players that you feel like when she wants to go get a basket, she is going to get a basket. I say all of that to say that Bean has the ability to absolutely take over a game. She is a vicious defender with quick hands and great lateral movement who does a great job of cutting off her opponent’s path to the basket. She uses her size well to score inside and can hit from midrange with a nice, quick release. Jamie is a lot of fun to watch and I encourage you to check out AE Red on the PGH Circuit or catch the replays on Baller TV.
Kishaylia Doss | 5-3 G | Arkansas Blaze / Magnolia (AR) | 2023
Arkansas Blaze games were pretty much “can’t miss” this weekend and it was all because of Kishaylia. She moved at a pace that really made it look like everyone else was just standing still. Most plays started on the defensive end for the Blaze where she used really good defensive pressure to force turnovers from her opponents either by jumping into the passing lane after diagnosing the play or by popping the ball loose with really quick hands. After that, it was off to the races where finished consistently in transition and picked up a LOT of fouls under the basket. She averaged almost 20 points for the weekend, putting her far ahead of almost every player in the competition, from any age group. Doss was simply everywhere, doing it all and I can’t wait to see more of this talented junior as the PGH Circuit rolls on!
Kennedy Simpson | 5-7 F | Houston Lady Nets / YES Prep – North Forest (TX) | 2026 | @kennedyy4x
Kennedy was one of the youngest players in the entire 16U division and without a roster in hand, nobody ever would have known. She is tall and long and very comfortable out there on the floor. She is all heart and hustle and has to be an absolute nuisance for opponents. She is relentless in all aspects of the game and I can tell you right now that her kind of determination combined with her size, athleticism, and just being a great person is going to make her a Division-I player. I’m not sure if my friend Simmie Colson from down in her neck of the woods has put his #D1Lock stamp of approval on her yet, but I would be willing to bet it is coming any day now. This lefty can score it from just about anywhere and had some big-time point totals against kids a lot older than she is. Simpson is a superstar. Remember the name!
Riley Grohman | 5-10 G | Texas Platinum / Jim Ned (TX) | 2025 | @riley_grohman
Speaking of D-I locks, I’m not sure I’ve been to a tournament that Riley played in yet where she wasn’t the talk of all of the scouts in attendance. That usually bodes well for a player’s future prospects. Grohman is a great communicator on defense and shows a really good understanding of what her team is trying to do both offensively and defensively. She is a quarterback on the court and with the combination of her size and smarts, she is going to be a tremendous college point guard. She already has the ability to rebound and defend at a level not seen in many high school point guards and I imagine things are only going to get better for this freshman as the years go on. Riley is extremely athletic and can score in bunches. College coaches, you need to be keeping an eye on this one!
Gianna Gentry | 5-6 G | TNBA Houston / Shadow Creek (TX) | 2025 | @giannagentry4
I’ll be honest. As high school scouts, we see a lot of panic out there on the floor. A player gets the ball in their hands, their eyes widen, they get nervous and you can immediately tell they don’t know what to do. That is NEVER the case with Gianna. She is smooth and deliberate in her movements and is clearly comfortable with the ball in her hands. She absolutely has the ability to take over a ball game if she wants. Her first step is explosive and throws all but the absolute best defenders off balance. She is strong and gets to the rim in a hurry, finishing through any contact she may find on the way there. Oh, by the way, she apparently has a 6.0 GPA which I had to Google to find out yes, it is an actual thing. I was never smart enough to need to know about that. All of that being said, coaches, she is very, very smart and a baller. You’re going to want to keep tabs on this one!
