The talent was very solid at the PGH Great Lakes Challenge last weekend at Grand Rapids, and here are five players who I saw that were difference makers for their teams.
Christina Rice, Central Illinois XPress 2023
An excellent playmaking guard with a good head on her shoulders and good court sense. A solid rebounder and has strong handles. Good footwork around the rim and moves well to put herself into position to help her team. One of the top players I saw over the weekend, and a definite difference maker for her team. Maeve Nolan, 2024, Michigan Goonies
An athletic player who does a very good job defensively with her on-ball pressure. A good pick-and-pop player who plays with a good basketball IQ and work ethic. Can play an uptempo style. She is a smaller guard but plays with a big heart. Excited to see her continued progress over the summer.
Gracee Robidou, MSF Flight 2024
She is a fiery guard who plays with a lot of heart. Gracie has a very high motor that never stops, she is a spark plug for her team and has excellent court vision. Good in transition and able to create well. Can score well from the perimeter, with good range. Part of a vert talented team.
Laila Abdurraqib, Indiana Blaze 2024
Haleigh had her listed on her all-tournament team, and the two games I saw her play, I thought she was the best play-making point guard I have seen so far on the circuit. She just makes plays happen, and her court vision is uncanny. She can draw the defense to her on the penetration and quickly dish for a wide open layup. Can make the no-look pass with ease. Such a fun player to watch.
Katy Eidle Katy Eidle 5'11" | CG Hersey | 2023 State #45 Nation IL , 2023, Wolverines 2023
Loved the way Katy (pictured left) played with so much poise during the two partial games I saw her. She is a long athletic wing player who has good court awareness and handles the ball very well. She is headed to the Big Ten and is didn’t take long to figure out why as she could score from anywhere on the court, with a very prolific perimeter shot, able to score from deep.
