There have been months of anticipation for this tournament and the teams were excited to be playing on Day 1 at the Upward Stars Center. The day was filled with double overtime games and game winners. It was an exciting day with a lot of big-time performances across all divisions. There were a lot of double doubles and exciting plays. Here are the players that stood out on Day 1 of the Triumph Region Finals.
Sariah Bradley I 5’7 I PG I 2023 I FGC Miracle Black 2023
Bradley is a game changer. In her first game during the tournament, she could not be stopped on either end of the court. A player that has the ability to take over a game and give her team a basket at any given time. Always working to find her way to an offensive rebound which allowed her to get plenty of putbacks at the rim. Once her opponents took away the drive, she found a way to knock down the mid-range or 3-point shot. A top performer on the day with 25 points.
Jada Peterson Jada Peterson 5'7" | CG Kell | 2023 State GA I 5’7 I PG I 2023 I Georgia Queen Elite 2023
Peterson could not be stopped in the 2 games that I had the opportunity to watch her. A player that gets better every time she steps on the court. Peterson is the floor general for her team but does everything you think of on the court. Great ballhandling skills which allow her to blow by her defenders and finish at the rim. What really caught my eye was her ability to get the defenders on their heels with the step back 3 ball. Scores at all 3 levels with ease.
Caroline Mullins Caroline Mullins 5'9" | CG Pickens | 2024 State GA I 5’9 I Wing I 2024 I Wood Elite 2024
Mullins is a player that did all the little things on Day 1. She is always working to get extra opportunities for her team whether it’s on the offensive or defensive end. A player that reads the defense and has the ability to back door cut you at any given moment. If you leave her open she will make you pay with the knock down mid-range or 3 ball. A player that always keeps moving which makes it hard to guard her. Has the ability to score inside/out and creates a lot of turnovers with her length.
Amyah Woodmore I 5’9 I Wing I 2023 I Georgia Queen Elite 2023
Woodmore is the workhorse on both ends of the floor. She finds a way to get to the loose ball which allows her to score around the rim. A player that knows how to slash through the defense and finish through contact. Her height creates matchup problems as she has the ability to score over the smaller guards inside but can blow by the bigger post with her speed. Plays with a ton of energy which her teammates feed off. Always communicating making sure her teammates are in the right spots.
Geriya Grady Geriya Grady 5'4" | PG Boca Ciega | 2023 State FL I 5’4 I PG I 2023 I Grindhouse Elite Club 2023
Grady was one of the best ball handlers I seen on Day 1. The way she lets her dribble set up her next move. It’s tough to guard her one on one as she has the ability to blow by you and get to the basket. If you play off her for the drive she knows how to consistently knock down the 3 ball. Great court vision and floor general. Finished game 1 with 16 points to help her team to the victory.
Jasnea Hall-McDowell I 5’5 I PG I 2023 I Lady OTOD 2023 Pink
McDowell is a shifty point guard that keeps you on your toes. Her ability to score at all 3 levels makes it tough to guard her. A player that uses her quickness to her advantage. Always going downhill which allows her to get to the basket or dump down to her post on the block. A player that can guard you 94 ft and create turnovers in the open court. High IQ point guard. Finished the day with a top performance after scoring 17 points in Game 1.
Keiyonla Knight I 5’8 I PG I 2025 I Team Passion 2024
Knight took over the game in her second game of the day. Her team loss in double overtime but she hit all the go ahead buckets to keep the game alive. A player that is so quick off the dribble that it was hard to keep her out the paint. Probably one of the best mid-range jump shooters on the day. When the game was on the line, she wanted the in her hands. A player that is not afraid of contact and also a lock down defender. Exciting player to watch. Top Performance with 21 points her second game on the day.
