This is now our third article just about the Philly Belles, who have some great New Jersey talent within the program. From one 17U team, we head over to the 17U DeShields team that has three New Jersey prospects on it, all three of which from South Jersey. Here’s a quick preview of the Philly Belles 17U DeShields team.
Sydney DeShields – 5-8 G, Lenape (2023)
DeShields played in 17 games for Lenape as a junior, scoring 4.5 points a game this season. We saw the peak of her play in a two-game stretch at the beginning of February when she posted two-straight double-digit scoring performances. DeShields looks like a confident player when driving to the basket and she can also shoot from the perimeter, though we saw that in bunches during the year. With this being her final summer before her senior year, we’re expecting to see DeShields make massive strides on the floor to head up a starting role for Lenape next season.
Ava Eberly Ava Eberly 5'10" | SG Williamstown | 2023 State NJ – 5-10 SG/SF, Williamstown (2023)
Eberly sits toward the bottom of PGH NJ’s 2023 prospect rankings, currently ranked No. 79 in the class. However, this is a player we’re excited to see more of this summer as her three-point shooting stayed consistent for the second-straight season, picking up toward the end of the year. In her final nine games as a junior, Eberly knocked down 2.3 three-pointers a game and had five double-digit scoring performances in that stretch. Her rebounding and passing was on-point as we saw her gain considerable confidence into the end of the season. Eberly is a player who will most definitely soar up the rankings come this fall.
Nicole Miller – 5-10 G/F, Shawnee (2023)
Miller is a watch list player for Prep Girls Hoops in the 2023 class after a solid season for Shawnee, developing dramatically from her first season on varsity as a sophomore. She looks to be a player who should be able to average double figures on offense due to her play style, someone who commands the lane while being able to shoot from the wing. She’s consistently finding open pockets to dominate or will try to draw in defenders to get to the foul line. She’s active on both sides of the ball and will only improve with steady playing time as she’s gotten in recent years.
