Team Griffin Elite 2023 Wernli outlasted a very strong Team Trae Young 2023 to capture the title. First, second, and third teams as well as a honorable mention list will be released to shine light on the play of so many players. Enjoy a look at the players selected to the 17U all-tournament third team. All five players are entering their senior year.
Brooklyn Freeman, 6’2″, PF, Dickinson, Houston Queens Elite 2023 – Freeman really shined defensively. What is not to like. A player who can defend the everywhere on the court, is fast, has great length, and has quick hands and feet. And has hops to use her length to grab a pile of boards. Freeman also uses those same athletic abilities offensively. She finishes with either hand with extension and speed. Also does a good job of racking up put-backs.
Chloee Smith Chloee Smith 5'10" | CG Stigler | 2023 State OK , 5’10”, SF, Keota, Oklahoma Lady Fusion 2023 – Smith puts up quality points for the Fusion. Can hit the perimeter shot with with her soft stroke. She also finishes nicely with length using the glass. Moves well into space, defends with energy.
Parker Stevenson Parker Stevenson 5'6" | PG Bethel | 2023 State OK , 5’6″, PG, Bethel, Oklahoma Swift 2023 – The Swift are, well,… swift and Stevenson is a point guard who uses her handles and passing ability to get the running game going. She has terrific down-the-floor vision and strength to push the ball ahead. Stevenson is also a very good back court defender. She earned several steals by taking the ball away from the ball handler and by picking off passes.
Hallie Ikenberry, 5’1″, PG, Jordan, Texas Cagers Select 2023 Blue – Ikenberry was among the players the other PGH scouts were talking about. Even when the shorthanded Blue got powder-kegged in their first game she continued to play hard on both ends of the floor. Going 0-2 turned into 2-0 on day two and she was a big reason why. Ikenberry has a complete skill set and she delivers the ball to the right person, at the right time, to get a quality shot. She has very solid handles, terrific vision, and good bounce. A solid shooter, she will pull up very quickly for a jumper off the bounce and can the open perimeter shot. Defensively, Ikenberry is very sticky and uses her smarts to make good defensive decisions.
Alana Zarneke Alana Zarneke 6'0" | SF Kaukauna | 2023 State WI , 6’0″, PF/SF, Kaukauna, Wisconsin Blaze 2023 Inferno – Zarneke is quality stretch four candidate at the next level. She has good post strength and uses solid post moves to take advantage of it. She moves well into space, has a good pull-up mid-range jumper, is also a streaky perimeter shooter. Not a player to foul. Absolute money. Zarneke transitions well and works hard defending on the perimeter and on the block.
