Continue ReadingLast article we touched on Region 7’s top returning guards. I feel it’s only right we look at some of the talented Forwards who are due for a break out year this coming winter. All players listed are All-Regional players from last year. Some names you’ll recognize and other’s you’ll come very familiar with… I’m sure of it.
Harys Beauchamp Harys Beauchamp 6'0" | PF Beulah | 2023 State ND – Beulah High School – (6’1/PF/2023) – Size and strength! Beauchamp is a monster on the inside and terribly hard to guard given her stature and ability to backdown defenders. Surprisingly she has handles and often explores options around the mid-post area in the ability to rip pass defenders and finish at the hoop with ease. I think I speak for everyone when I say she’s an all-region selection next year and might even have a word for all-state.
Ellie Powell Ellie Powell 5'11" | PF Bowman County | 2023 State ND – Bowman County – (5’11/PF/2023) – Ellie displayed a solid offensive set last year with some natural athleticism towards her game. A player that can hurt you in a multitude of ways from putting the ball on the deck to traditional back to the basketball play. If you haven’t already checked out Powell I encourage you to do so.
Hannah Frank – New England – (5’9/PF/2023) – Hannah is a tough cookie to guard. She’s crafty with the basketball and scores off hard work and put back opportunities. She’s not the most versatile or flashiest player on the court, but you can ensure you’re going to be in for a dog fight against the player. She’s scrappy and goes for loose balls. A solid defender that put New England on her shoulders in a few competitions last year dropping multiple double-doubles with points and rebounds. You won’t find much of a better worker than Frank on this list.
Kaley Schatz – Glen Ullin/Hebron – (5’7/SF/2023) – A crafty forward that plays tough!! Kaley is a 3 level scorer being able to hit middies to extended 3 point shots and has a nice around the basket game that’s tough for slower forwards to handle. She’s a rebounding mystra and wiggles around taller forwards and centers to find a crevasse using her solid strength to move and rebound the ball for easy put back opportunities. Schatz is an undersized forward, but has all the capabilities to put the ball on the deck and defend the 2-4 positions on almost any given night.
Mikayla Schneider – Glen Ullin/Hebron – (5’8/SF/2023) – Mikayla is an all-region player for Region 7 that doesn’t get enough credit on the defensive end. She’s a block timing machine and picks off loose balls with speed and precision. She’s often found guarding between the 3-5 spots and will take on the most versatile player on the opposing team. She’s got good core work and sticks with defenders well. She needs to improve her footwork some, but honestly one of the most solid defensive minded forwards on this list.
