Prep Girls Hoops Missouri takes a look at some New Names of players that we saw during our two days of watching the action at the Run 4 the Roses in Louisville, KY.
Harleigh Hodges (Standout Prep 2023): A 6’2″ 2023 post player from Mansfield who plays a very effective back-to-the-basket game. She knows how to use her size to seal defenders and she can finish well off the glass with good fundamentals. If the defender fronts her, she’s very good at walking her up the lane to create a better angle for the lob pass. She can also wheel and deal with good footwork in the lane. She also does an excellent job of getting position to rebound.
Jayla Kirksey (Players First 2023): A 5’11″ 2023 forward from Gateway Legacy who is very active and athletic around the basket. She’s an excellent rebounder who gets out of her area to corral boards at both ends of the court. She made some good passes from the high post and some nice dimes from the interior. She runs the court well in transition while also flashing a nice shooting touch from 10-12 feet in the lane.
Abbie Sextro Abbie Sextro 6'0" | PF Incarnate Word Academy | 2024 State MO (Napheesa Collier Elite 2023-Stricker): A solid 6’1″ 2024 forward from Incarnate Word Academy who had a very effective performance in the game that I watched her. She scored well around the basket and she used both hands. She had a nice spin move in the lane to get a bucket and she was very good on the roll down as she made the catch and finished off the glass.
Mikala Washington (Midwest United 2024): A 5’9″ 2024 guard from Cardinal Ritter who was impressive with her overall athleticism and high energy at both ends of the court. She was slashing into the lane for buckets and she also hit a couple of Corner 3-pointers. Her defensive intensity was very good as she created steals and deflections with her length and good anticipations.
Taylor Foster (DC Queens 2024): A 6’0″ 2024 forward from Branson who is very mobile and she can pass the ball very well. The lefty is an unselfish player who does a good job as a secondary ball handler against pressure defense. When she gets to her dominant left hand, she can attack the basket with strength and authority. She also runs the court well in transition.
Ava Hughes (Napheesa Collier Elite 2025-Yorg): A 5’9″ 2025 forward from Hermann who plays an aggressive game in terms of attacking the basket. The lefty uses her body well to draw fouls and she can score through contact very effectively. She is very comfortable operating in tight spaces whether she driving to the basket or crashing the boards.
PJ Reutzel (Southeast Dynasty 2025-Osborne): A talented 5’10” 2025 guard from Fredericktown who excels in the open court with her good pace and she attacks the basket well. She handles pressure well and her court vision is excellent. She can hit the open 3-pointer with extended range as well as the pull up jumper.
