The Honey Badgers team had an impressive showing at the tournament. They went 5-0 and won the championship, in the highest 15 u bracket. They had a bunch of players who contributed. The team played unselfish, and really well as a team. Everyone on the team buys in, and they are not concerned with stats and do whats best for the team. Here is a few standout performances from the Honey Badgers on day 3.
I was impressed with I saw from Charlotte. She brings a bunch of different skills to the table to impact the game. She is a high energy guard. She has the ability to play the point guard or the shooting guard, and has good size for the Position. In the championship game, she made multiple three pointers. One was a behind the back dribble step back three. Another was a set shot. She also had a few nice finishes in the lane. One was a soft floater in the middle of the lane over 2 defenders, another was an off hand layup at the rim. Another finish was off a good pass, on a hard cut to the rim. She also did a good job getting her teammates involved when running the point. One play she made a nice bounce pass to a cutting teammate in the lane for an easy layup. Another was a great pass up the floor to start the fast break. Another nice pass was on a baseline inbounds play to a teammate for an open layup. Charlotte has a good all around skill set on offense. She can shoot the three, and also be a slasher. She also has good handles, sees the floor well, and moves well away from the ball. On defense she is very active. She is versatile and can guard multiple positions. Charlotte raised her stock throughout the tournament, and should continue to improve in her sophomore season.
Highlights
The 5-11 wing had a good showing at the tournament. Lily is a tough player, with good athleticism and length. She can stretch the floor and be a slasher, and also finish down low. She had a number of finishes at the rim in the tournament. One was a left hand finish on a cut to the lane on a pass off a baseline inbounds play. Another was on a pass over the top of a defender in the post leading to a drop ste finish. She also had a few straight line drive to the basket. Lily was aggressive on the boards. On defense she uses her length and athleticism to make it tough to score on her. Lily has a lot of potential and upside to her game.
Izzy is a crafty guard. She keeps improving every game I watch her play. She had a number of nice passes in the tournament, and also did well finishing at the rim. She has really good handles, and can stop on the dime. She made a bunch of good entry passes, and showed her good court visions. She has a high basketball IQ and reads the defense well. She is a playmaker, and can creat her own shot, or a shot for her teammates. On defense she was tough and was active on pressuring ball handlers. I really like Izzys game, and she is a guard that should not go unnoticed.
As only a freshman on the varsity team at Foxborough, Kailey made an instant impact. She was the teams leading scorer, the starting point guard and named league all star. Kailey is a talented guard, who can take over games by scoring, but can also be a facilitator. She is a three level scorer. She can shoot the ball, score off the dribble, and can create her own shot. She is a leader on the floor, and in the tournament she was constantly communicating on the floor. She made a bunch of timely plays to help lead her team to the championship win. She also got after it on defense, and one play had a big block in transition. Kailey is still young, but already proving her potential to play at the college level.
Another team that had a notable Championship performance was Leigh Valley. They won a hard fought game to take home the championship. Here is 2 standout players from their team.
