This conference contains two teams who made a sectional-semifinal last season: Lake Cecelia Mills Cecelia Mills 5'4" | SG Florence Wisconsin | 2027 WI and Columbus. Even though the Capitol-North only has six teams within it, four of them at least made it to a regional title game. Some of these groups can compete here. Let’s look at a few of the players within the Capitol-North.
Madison Ehlenbach Madison Ehlenbach 5'9" | CG Columbus | 2024 State WI
The Columbus guard is coming off an excellent AAU season with Foundation Athletics and, in my opinion, maybe the most underrated combo guard in Wisconsin. She can score in any way you’d want a guard to score the ball. I’ve seen her score at all three levels and create her shot at all three levels. She was a part of the Cardinals group who upset state title contender Prairie du Chien in the regional championship round and will likely be good again this coming season. Ehlenbach could be a breakout athlete in this conference.
Bella Pitta
The recent Lipscomb commit is a multi-talented 6-foot-3 forward for Lake Cecelia Mills Cecelia Mills 5'4" | SG Florence Wisconsin | 2027 WI . She has the skill to score around the basket and knock down jumpers on the perimeter. Pitta also plays big. On the defensive end, she doesn’t chase blocks. She looks to contest shots. Pitta has a lot of discipline and changes numerous shot attempts around the basket. There won’t be many kids with her size and skillset in Wisconsin this season.
Marin Riesen Marin Riesen 5'9" | CG Lakeside Lutheran | 2023 WI
The 5-foot-10 wing is deceptively quick and makes loads of positive plays for her team. She uses her first step to get into her mid-range game. I’m surprised with how confident she looks when she gets to 10-15 feet and pulls up as if it’s a layup. Riesen also gets into the mix for offensive rebounds. She’s an athletic kid who can get off the floor twice before some kids hit the floor on their first jump. She makes winning plays and is a kid that small schools will want at the next level.
Nora Wendorff
Wendorff is a pass-first point guard with the ability to score. Last season the Watertown Luther Prep guard recorded three assists per game, which was good enough for third in the conference. Wendorff also understands her physical limitations and can work around those well. She may only be 5-foot-4, but she has a high release and is comfortable utilizing a funky floater around the basket that works well for her. Watching small guards is intriguing because none of them do things the same, and Wendorff is no different.
