Because it doesn’t and you can be 5’1 and lead your University Of Houston squad to the NCAA Tournament as Porsche Landry did or be a multiple-time All-Conference player and lead Rice to the WNIT as 5’2 D’Frantz Smart did, well. This is why I also hashtag #ThereIsNoMe and when you are naive enough to listen to irrelevant nonsense but you also have too many people giving advice that don’t know what they’re talking about, here are some small point guards that can definitely play at the next level from the Neville Jones Invitational
Tea Rodriguez-5’4 (Marble Falls) Austin Elite RFW |2023|
Rodriguez smoothly grabbed my attention at the start of the season and I have not stopped watching her on the court whenever I could. She’s HEADY, she controls the tempo and she understands how to run a team and get everyone involved and since she’s usually on the floor with Avari Berry Avari Berry 5'7" | PG Pfugerville | 2023 State TX , who also runs the 1, either can also play the 2 effective. Rodrigue has range, she can drop off the screen as well as “catch and shoot” but she also attacks and sees the floor
Kourtney Irons-5’1 (Hahnville) KennerAngels 2023 Dennis |2023|
Irons has the right last name because she turned it on immediately and brought some heat, see how I did that. I was thinking about saving her for the Shooters/Scorers list from the event, yeah she can drop it from deep, but her attacking and dishing in traffic, her handling the ball in transition under pressure and her countless on-the-money passes in traffic had me place her here. I guess the icing on the cake since no one brought me boudin, was her playing the passing lane
Aniyah Sanford Aniyah Sanford 5'5" | PG Langham Creek | 2023 State TX -5’4 (Langham Creek) Houston United 832 |2023|
Sanford was in what, the 3rd grade when I first saw her and one thing that hasn’t changed is her smile, as well as her seriousness on the court. What has changed is that she has added something every year, she worked on her ballhandling under pressure, she also worked on her passing and by the time she entered middle school, the stage had been set or had it. She extended her range, and she got stronger but when I saw her outrebound players over “the magic number” which is 6’0 numerous times, I just SMH. Oh, I guess her running the team needs to be mentioned as well
Eryn Lloyd- 5’2 (Langham Creek) Houston United 832 |2023|
Lloyd has also continued to work hard on both ends. She was always a solid defender yet she is now an “on the ball” baseline to baseline defender yet she has improved on a number of offensive skills. Her ballhandling in transition is nice, she zig-zags in traffic and can throw 20-foot passes on the run on the money but she also has that “stop and pop” from the free throw line in transition as well. Her range from deep has improved, and so has her finishing after contact
Danielle Ruffin Danielle Ruffin 5'5" | CG Cy Creek | 2024 TX -5’5 (Cypress Creek) Houston United Chuck |2024|
Ruffin may not be related to David but I knew she would be a hit, GOOGLE IT. Her explosive first step coupled with her acrobatic finishes always has me smiling. She is vocal on both ends of the court, understands how to direct traffic, and set her teammates up for gimmes but her jumper with a hand in her face “ain’t nothing to be played with”. She understands how to force the offensive player into the trap but she also defends strongly
Tynia Minnitt-5’5 (Connally) Waco United 16U |2025|
Minnitt continues to elevate her game and from the numerous acrobatic pictures I caught, she’s also elevating off the ground. Yeah, she can score off the dribble as well as drop the mid to long-range, and yeah, she “thinks the game” and doesn’t force anything. I love her demeanor as she never gets flustered and she applies so much heat that her intensity trickles down to her teammates. I also love her unselfishness when running the 1 and that JUST DID IT for me years ago
