Aliyah Corpening Aliyah Corpening 5’5″ | CG Asheville Christian Academy | 2023 NC can officially call herself a state champion after winning it last season with Asheville Christian. She was certainly a big piece of the championship season for her team as she is a tough defender constantly staying in the face of her opponents. Her ability to grab steals and blow by the other team is fun to watch as she is sure to score in transition. She makes plays easily for herself by blowing by her opponents or stopping quickly to put up her jump shot.
Armani Reid Armani Reid 5’9″ | SF Southwest Onslow | 2023 NC has long strides when she runs up and down the court that allow her to blow by her opponents. This asset allows her to use some change of speed moves to throw off her opponents. She can take it all the way to the hoop or elevate over her defenders to score from a jump shot. She maintains her form no matter what kind of contact may be coming her way, and her height allows her to be an asset underneath the basket, too.
Defense is something that is underrated at the high school level, but you can certainly tell that Samaria Tipps Samaria Tipps 5’6″ | CG Fred T. Foard | 2023 NC takes it very seriously. She can lock down any opponent using her lateral speed to keep them in front of her. She does a nice job translating that speed to the offensive side of the ball blowing by her defenders and spinning her way to some points. She can shoot from behind the arc as well.
Highlights
Lettie Michael Lettie Michael 5’10” | SG North Davidson | 2023 NC is set to be a leader for her team during her senior season. She has been shooting the ball well from behind the arc for years, and she has a way of rolling the ball off her fingers no matter where she is on the court to make sure it goes through the hoop. This is particularly effective when someone is closing out on her shot as she doesn’t change her form at all. She does well attacking the basket going after some points, and she’s quick in transition being able to score on fast breaks.
Te’Keyah Bland Te’Keyah Bland 6’0″ | SF Northwood | 2023 State NC is coming off of the 3A state championship with Northwood, and it wouldn’t surprise me if she helps lead her team to another one. She is dominant in the paint grabbing rebounds, and she knows how to make sure she’s the only one who can get a pass from her teammates when she widens her body in the paint. She uses her vantage point to help find her open teammates as they cut towards the basket.
Christina DeLisa Christina DeLisa 5’4″ | PG Northern Guilford | 2023 NC (featured photo) is another strong defender for her team doing whatever it takes to regain the possession whether that is jumping in front of a pass, knocking the ball away from a guard trying to dribble, or diving on the floor for a loose ball. She has been the floor general for her teams for years controlling the tempo of the game and calling plays to run. She has a nice shot herself, and she can take it all the way to the hoop calling her own number.
