This is something new that PGH is trying out, concentrating talent into the bigger hubs of each state and in New Jersey, luckily, there are a number of hubs where some of the best talent in the state is. We’re going to start in South Jersey and work our way up and with that in mind, here are the top point guards in Camden and the surrounding area.
Hannah Hidalgo Hannah Hidalgo 5'7" | PG Paul VI | 2023 State NJ – 5-7, Paul VI (2023)
Putting Hidalgo on this list was a no-brainer, just like our No. 1 ranking of her in the Class of 2023 in New Jersey. Hidalgo is one of the best prospects in New Jersey in quite some time, someone who is going to have a major and instant impact at whatever Division 1 school she commits to. Hidalgo’s game is nearly perfect at this point: a dominant scorer, excellent defender, great commander of teams and a bonafide leader. Everything you look for in a generational talent, you’ll find in Hidalgo.
Bridget Dickson Bridget Dickson PG Sterling | 2024 NJ – Sterling (2024)
Dickson is a player that we’re really high on after the run that Sterling had in the state playoffs last year, one that she anchored and put the team on her back. Dominant performances throughout showed growth in maturity and great qualities of leadership. Her stats don’t necessarily jump off the page, but with the reigns in her hand as a junior, she’s going to flourish.
Aaryn Battle Aaryn Battle 5'8" | SF Camden Catholic | 2023 State NJ – 5-9, Camden Catholic (2023)
Battle and teammate Kassidy Thompson Kassidy Thompson 5'9" | SG Camden Catholic | 2023 State NJ have formed one of the best backcourts in New Jersey, growing together over the past two seasons since the pair transferred to Camden Catholic in 2020. Her last name is quite fitting considering the grit she plays with on the court, how she leaves it all out there every game and plays with her heart on her sleeve. Battle lives for the moment, but loves to get teammates involved just as much. She’s one of the best passing guards in the state and will only get better this season.
Macie Nugent Macie Nugent SG Gloucester Catholic | 2023 State NJ – 5-9, Gloucester Catholic (2023)
Nugent quite emphatically took control of the point and of the program as a result, continuing Gloucester Catholic on a path of immense success. She improved greatly as a junior, spotting up well from beyond the arc more than she had ever done. The three-point success was there in bulk, which opened up the floor more for her teammates to get their baskets. Nugent is one of the best pure scorers in South Jersey and has the leadership and talent to back it up.
Hannah Bryszewski Hannah Bryszewski PG Gloucester City | 2023 State NJ – Gloucester City (2023)
Bryszewski has breathed new life into Gloucester City, a piece this program can build around at least for the next year and a leader at the top of the key. She returns as the second-leading scorer from last season, leading three-point shooter and perimeter defender. There will be much more pressure on Bryszewski to produce as the main cog on this team, which means more attention being put on her from opponents. However, after the stellar season she had as a junior, the sky is truly the limit this fall.
