Jordyn Decker Jordyn Decker 5'9" | SG University | 2023 State AZ – is a 5-9 senior combination guard and captain for Rincon/University High School. She also plays for the Tucson Heat, her grassroots team. She averaged 11.4 points per game last winter along with three rebounds and six assists per contest. Her team finished with an overall record of 8-15.
In a personal statement about her career, Jordyn commented. “As a collegiate athlete, my goals would be to pave the way for younger girls in all sports. My coach will have a leader both on and off the court and a player that is willing to learn everything about the game and make everyone around her better so we can win.”
Rincon/University lost in last year’s state playoffs to Tucson High School, 53-45. Jordy’s scoring average has increased yearly. From 1.8 points per game as a freshman, she averaged 3.8 as a sophomore and 11.4 as a junior. Her rebounding, assists, and steals per game totals also improved each season. One scout had this to say about her game. “Decker is an all-around athlete that can get the job done anywhere on the court. She is a versatile player with a lot of experience playing in a tough division.”
Leamsi Acuna Leamsi Acuna 5'5" | CG Flowing Wells | 2023 State AZ – is a 5-5 combination senior guard who plays for Floring Wells High School. Last winter, as a junior, she had four steals in a game against Marana Mountain View and six steals against Pueblo High School. Floring Wells finished last year with an overall record of 29-2 and a perfect 11-0 in their conference. Leamsi averaged 12.4 points last season along with 5.8 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.6 steals. Her team lost to Milennium, 46-28. in the state tournament last season.
Playing for Head Coach Michael Perkins, Leamsi has played in 74 games in her first three years, averaging 11.3 points per game. Her comments about her team. “The chemistry we’ve built with each other and the way we overcome our problems is just amazing. I have trust in my team.”
At the Flowing Wells holiday tournament last December, Leamsi led the Lady Caballeros to four straight wins and recorded 27 assists to just 6 turnovers. She is primed for a great senior season.
SARAH SMOOT – is a 5-7 senior guard for Mountain View High School in Mesa. The Toros went only 5-13 last year and 4-6 in their conference. Sarah has been playing basketball since the third grade when her mother coached her. In junior high school, her team won a championship two years in a row. A transfer from Red Mountain High School, she plays for Head Coach Mandi Webster-Carson.
Sarah averaged 10.7 points per game, 3.9 rebounds and3.0 steals last year. She was selected as second-team All-State as a junior and has an unweighted GPA of 3.58. She is looking forward to her last year of high school basketball.
Natalie Scherzer Natalie Scherzer 5'7" | CG Chaparral | 2023 State AZ – is a 7-7 senior combination guard who plays for the Chaparral Firebirds. She also plays for her club team, Arizona Select. Natalie has a five foot five wingspan and averaged 15 points per game as a junior along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists per game. She played at Horizon High school in Scottsdale from 2019-2021 before transferring.
As a sophomore, she averaged 12.4 points per game. In 46 games at Horizon – her freshman and sophomore years – Natalie averaged 7.2 points per game along with 3.8 rebounds She also plays for her AAU Coach Alan Mitchell and has a GPA of 3.40.
Lucy Lohman Lucy Lohman 5'2" | CG Mesquite | 2023 State AZ – is a 5-5 guard who plays for Head Coach Candice Gonzales for Mesquite High School in Gilbert. She also plays for her grassroots team, Team Arizona. Mesquite went 18-7 overall last season but had a 7-1 record in their conference. Lucy averaged 4.1 points per game to go with 2.8 rebounds and 2.2 steals in 2021-2022. The Wildcats lost in the AIA playoffs to Greenway, 53-48. Over the last three years, she has played in 76 games with an average of 4.5 points per contest.
Lucy was listed as a ‘Stock Riser’ this summer as she continues to improve her game. One scout referred to her “as a good ball handler, a high-effort player who always plays with confidence.”
