Two of the best teams in the state are in the same district, Duncanville, and Desoto. Without seeing the latter, I already know but here’s who and what the Pantherettes have added
Lainice Hill-5’5 CG [2023}
Hill as in “climbing up the” but off the top, her on-the-ball pressure JUST DID IT for me and it fit her squad’s style as she applies so much until it falls into “smothering”. Her ability to force the offensive player into traps, her quick hands, and her diving on the floor is another piece to their puzzle as her role will be bigger this season
Imani Morris-6’4 C [2023]
Morris is “long and athletic” always remember that’s the base and a profile I love to evaluate. She has good timing to block, alter, and (or) deflect shots but she rebounds on both ends and showed she could not only score around the basket but finish strongly after contact. She also did a good job defending both inside and outside the paint and just her mere inside presence will be effective
Mariyah Clayton-6’0 SF [2024]
Clayton dropped the mic, her initials are MC and she’s been doing it since I first saw her I guess 3 or 4 years ago. She was omitted from the PGH Texas Top 100, which will be taken care of in a few weeks and her powerful finishes are a big reason. I love her attacking the rim from every angle and scoring on putbacks but her fierce rebounding made a statement. She can drop the jumper both in the set and in transition
Chloe Mann Chloe Mann 5'8" | SG Duncanville | 2024 State TX – 5’8 CG [2024]
Mann oh Mann, I love progression and expect her to make a major jump on the next update yet “major jump” is fitting as she attacked the rim relentlessly from every angle imaginable and also leaped over defenders to score, check the featured picture, both off the dribble and with the mid to long-range got me going but her “never takes a play off” mentality is something that was always there and can’t be taught
Trystan James Trystan James 6'0" | PF Duncanville | 2025 State TX -6’0 PF [2025]
James is going to fill many gaps because she stands at the “magic number” and is more than serviceable on both ends. She plays solid defense, rebounds, on both ends, and runs the floor. She also showed she could score around the basket
Jasmine Gipson-5’10 SF [2025]
Gipson is coming off of a big club season and she too will be added to the Top 100. She’s long and athletic, see above, and watching her set the defender up to score off the dribble with a deceptive first step is always a plus but so is her jumper. She rebounds strongly and defends the same way but her sheer desire both going after the ball off the rim or loose balls is very nice
