Simmonds was one the most talented players and seniors in the building, and that is saying a lot with the list of quality players present at this showcase. Offensively, what couldn’t Simmonds do on a basketball court. She stepped behind the arc several times and knocked down three pointers, she drove the ball with a quick burst to the basket, she got to the rim with euro steps, scored off of jump stops with a midrange pullup, and she scored off of runners and floaters. She showed the whole arsenal and left no doubt that she was one of the top players in the building. She was also good on the defensive end, defending on the wing and in the paint.
Arianna Mosley / 5’8 SF / Tampa Prep
Mosley started slowly, but once she got going she really got into a groove. Mosley gets down hill in a hurry and spends half of the game on the floor from taking contact. Mosley looks to attack from the onset and it takes an elite effort from an elite player to stay in front of her. Mosley can finish with the left or right, and she also attacks the offensive glass with quickness and determination to get the ball in the basket. Mosley is an elite scorer and she capitalizes on all scoring opportunities, whether from drives, jumpers, offensive rebounds or freethrows. She averaged over 30 points per game last season.
Kyaija Stewart / 6’0 SF / Tampa Catholic
Stewart’s Game has versatility written all over it and she was really impressive at the showcase She did a great job of running the floor in transition and finishing. From the outside she was a very effective shooter, knocking down several three pointers. You want midrange, she was efficient in that area as well. Stewart’s game was polished. It was apparent that she knew what she was doing out there.
Aja Pollard Aja Pollard 5'10" | SF Bartram Trail | 2023 State FL / 5’10 SF / Bartram
Pollard was super aggressive at the Expo. Pollard was determined to get to the rack and she did early and often. If she wasn’t shooting freethrows , she was knocking down runners in the paint. Pollard showed her versatility and knocked down some three pointers as well. and she is known for putting up some threes. Pollard was on the attack, and her athleticism was just overwhelming for defenders at times.
Xaniya Jackson / 6’0 PF / Andrew Jackson
Jackson is the lone Power Forward on this list. She was dominant at times and competitive the remainder of the time. She mixed it up a few times with some of the other “Bigs” in the house and it was power on power. Jackson doesn’t back down and if you can’t take her heat, you’ll be out of the kitchen very soon. Jackson was a force on the glass all day long and she got her share of conversions in the paint. She also showed that she can shoot the jumper from the feeethrow area and in. Jackson assisted in press break a few times, bringing the ball down the court and dishing to an open teammate. She showed a lot of versatility to her game, but with Jackson, it all starts and ends with the power. That what makes her one of the best power forwards in the 2023 class.
