I’m also a dad who has a daughter that just won a WNBA Championship, she also had one of those in college but on top of that, she had over 100 D1 offers, unheard of in this era.
What’s also unheard of is how hard it is to get and stay at the next level, I constantly remind people “the only numbers you need to be concerned with is the number of colleges offering you a chance at playing at the next level”, now isn’t that simple. Place yourself in the RIGHT situation, been there, done that, and have helped hundreds if not thousands achieve their dreams
Needless to say, several players elevated their status, both here and at the PGH Texas Freshman Showcase, and here are my Top 5, I’ll drop my second 5 later today, yet hold on, all were evaluated, stay tuned and always remember, #ThereIsNoMe
Samantha Tillson Samantha Tillson 6'3" | PF McKinney | 2024 State TX -6’3 C (McKinney) 2024
Tillson was overly impressive and showed what I love to see in players, I say this over and over, and that’s progression. I’m another SC that sees everything and knows who has been working, yeah, the power and battling for rebounds were always there, and so was her aggressiveness and defense yet her “hands and footwork” you’re going to see that a lot, were just #THROWBACK as she finished however she wanted, usually after contact
Grace Booth Grace Booth 5'10" | SG Glen Rose | 2024 State TX -5’10 SG (Glen Rose) 2024
Booth made my Tip Sheet over the club season, I saw her for a couple of minutes which is all I need when you can do a variety of things yet this time was even better. She creates her shot under pressure and was one of the best at the event at doing so, and her pull-up jumper was dropping smoothly and effortlessly, with a hand in her face. She also scored off the dribble using a deceptive first step and finished after contact. She played defense, she also played what I love to see, the passing lane and she rebounded on both ends
MaKyah Foreman MaKyah Foreman 5'8" | CG Bellaire | 2025 State TX -5’7 SG (Bellaire) 2025
Foreman looked different, she added mass and was simply off the chart. She too showed she could drop the jumper while being defended, both in the set and in transition, yet the HEZ, yall call it the HEZZIE but it’s the “hesitation” that gets the defender off balance, and that JUST DID IT for me. Her poise under pressure was on full display, that stop and pop was dropping from mid to long range but she found time to rebound on both ends, usually against taller players, and played solid “on the ball” defense
Isabella King Isabella King 6'0" | PF Braswell | 2025 State TX -6’0 PF (Braswell) 2025
King went completely off when her game started and I scratched my head wondering “how did I miss her” but Texas is HUGE and I hadn’t. Well, she changed her hair and if you click on the link, you’ll see why I’m a real evaluator because she has elevated her game to yet another level. Hands and footwork, told you it was coming again, yet she was using either hand to finish, even showed a finger roll with her left, #THROWBACK, but her DESIRE to go after the ball as well as going coast to coast to finish, drop the midrange or dish, were all very nice
Brooklyn King Brooklyn King 6'0" | SF Cedar Hill | 2025 State TX -6’0 PF (Cedar Hill) 2025
King, no relation, well I don’t know, but one more time, “hands and footwork” gets her an A+. Since I’m giving grades, her “monster blocks” got not only the crowd going, but me as well since the ball almost hit me. Her powerful moves around the rim which included finishing with players literally hanging on her were nice, well more than nice but she was simply overpowering on the boards. She showed she could rebound and go the length of the court and score, she also did a good job defending on the interior as well as outside the paint
