Over the course of the event, we were impressed by a group of players who played with great energy while they were on the court. Here is a look at some of the those high motor kids who caught our eye on Saturday.
Ariana Mosley Ariana Mosley 5'5" | PG Kickapoo | 2024 State MO (Kickapoo): The 5’5″ 2024 point guard was so active in the game that I watched her that I thought there might have been two or three of her on the court. She seemed to be everywhere at both ends of the court. She was picking up opposing ball handlers in the backcourt and hounding them their entire 94 feet. She also used her speed and quickness to keep the tempo fast in the open court and she was very effective with her dribble penetration. Her energy was boundless. I was getting tired watching her.
Chloe Reed Chloe Reed 6'0" | SG Lutheran St Charles | 2025 State MO (Lutheran-St. Charles): The moment this 5’10” 2025 wing stepped on to the court, she was in attack mode from the opening tip off to the final buzzer. She was getting the ball and attacking the basket at every possible opportunity. She is athletic with good length so she can cover a lot of space with each stride and each dribble. She was aggressive on the boards and taking off the lead the break after she grabbed the rebound.
Kya Johnson Kya Johnson 5'8" | SF Kickapoo | 2024 State MO (Kickapoo): A 5’8″ forward who does a lot of damage around the basket despite playing against much taller players. The reason why she is so effective is that she is physically stronger than most players and she competes harder with a ton of effort and energy inside. She’s constantly working on the boards and she does a good job of getting out of her area to corral rebounds. When she catches the ball on the perimeter, she was attacking the basket with zeal and authority to finish in the paint.
Josie Christopher (O’Fallon, IL): The 5’2″ 2026 point guard was probably the smallest player at the event, but that didn’t keep her from being in the middle of the action on a constant basis. She was feisty and she always seemed to be around the ball because of her great effort and her ability to be in the right position. She was moving her feet defensively and she didn’t mind reaching in and getting a little physical. She was very fearless when she was attacking in the lane and pulling up for short jumpers.
Brooke Blankenship Brooke Blankenship 6'1" | PF St. Pius X | 2026 State MO (St. Pius): A 6’0″ 2026 forward who was a real battler in the in the paint. She was very active in the game I watched her as she constantly worked for post position while also blocking out somebody whenever a shot went up. She is also very mobile and very capable of putting the ball on the floor to make an aggressive drive to the basket. With her physical strength and big effort, she was able to get a lot done.
