Continue ReadingCarlee Rochford Carlee Rochford 5’10” | PG New Hampton | 2023 State IA had a year to talk about when it comes to scoring during the 21′-22′ season. She averaged 24.5 PPG on 45.5% shooting, 10.8 RPG, and 2.7 APG for the New Hampton Chickasaws. Giving Rockford the #3 spot in total points scored for the 3A class. The PG is a three level scorer with the option to put the ball on the floor when pressured or shoot it over the defender if a low closeout should occur. Other than being a dominate offensive player overall, Carelee ranked in the top of the rankings in shooting efficiency on the season. She will look to lead this New Hampton team to a successful year this winter while preparing to make their mark once the playoffs begin.
Abbey Bence
Abbey Bence
Abbey Bence is a difference maker when she is on the floor for the West Burlington Falcons, after averaging 18.7 PPG on 42.5% shooting, and bringing in 7.7 RPG during her junior year. She will return this winter more focused after working all off-season to expand her game and be the best version of herself on the court. Along with being able to finish at the rim, the biggest stat that jumps out to me about Abbey is how frequently she gets to the free throw line, averaging 7.9 attempts per game during the 21′-22′ season. Defenders need to be careful of reaching or over playing Bence because more often then not, it’ll result in an AND1. The off guard will take control this year and intend to lead the Falcons to a championship in conference and on their way into the playoffs.
Tyra Schuiteman
Tyra Schuiteman
Tyra Schuiteman put up numbers last season that would of led most other teams in Iowa High School basketball, averaging 14.6 PPG on 55.6% shooting, 7 RPG, 1.5 APG, all while making three pointers at a 37.3% rate. The 6’0 forward is a skilled player who can move well down low in the post or bring things out to the three point line when she sees a mismatch in her favor. After losing last season in the state semi-finals and finishing the year 24-2 overall, 10-0 in conference, the Knights will look to return in the 22′-23′ season under the control of Schuiteman and Grace Schoonhoven who may of put up the best numbers in the state as a duo during their 21′-22′ campaign.
Kenna Mongan Kenna Mongan 5’6″ | PG Cherokee | 2023 State IA shot the ball well from the field during the 21′-22′ year while being the captain of the Cherokee Washington Braves who had a successful season overall. Morgan averaged 15 PPG on 42.9% shooting, 3.4 RPG, and 3.3 APG on the way to a 15-9 season overall, 6-3 in conference. She has worked all summer to add onto her ability as a PG, working on passing variations, her foot work, and noticing game situations. Returning with some good players and light bench experience will make this winter fun for the Braves and Kenna as they look to compete in and out of conference as the year goes on.
