Last Friday, September 23rd, we released the Fall rankings update for the Class of 2024. There were a handful of new additions, a lot of players who raised their “stock”, so to speak, so subsequently a lot of movement throughout the list. I wanted to take this time to circle back and address all of the ranked prospects, position by position. Below is a look at 32 power forward prospects who make up just 18.3% of the rankings this time around, with analysis on a handful to “keep an eye on” detailed at the bottom.
KEEP AN EYE ON:
It might not seem like a huge jump, but moving from the #7 prospect in Indiana six months ago to #2 now, is a big deal. Faith has put in a great deal of time and work to get here, and my guess is that she’ll just continue to trend up. She has really nice size, wiry strength, and tremendous length. She moves around the floor somewhat effortlessly for a 6-4 forward, and she reminds me a lot of Whitney Sollom (University of Michigan). She likes to work the short corners and the mid-post, plus Faith has really improved her perimeter skill.
Mia has always been an intriguing prospect to watch, and I think a lot of it is because she is a nice, fluid, somewhat smooth athlete. She has good length, wiry strength, and she has some bounce in her step. She is very good along the baseline and in the mid-post, but she has also flashed some perimeter skill at times. I think the biggest thing with her is simply consistency. When she plays against better players, she has her moments, but if she can stack up a consistent cluster of those efforts, she could become a Top-30 kid in Indiana.
Kaitlyn has a nice combination of athleticism, strength, and skill, plus she plays with an outstanding motor. She can run and jump with most girls in this class, but it’s her strength that’s deceiving. She reportedly set a North Central female dead lift record at over 300 pounds. Because of it, she can play an undersized ‘5’ defensively, though she’s athletic enough to defend wings and bigger guards. She is extremely active on the boards, she’s a nice mid-post scorer, and she’s starting to improve her perimeter shot and her handle.
I really like watching Daneijah play, and I think she has a lot to offer at the next level. She has a powerfully strong frame, she doesn’t mind playing with physicality and absorbing contact, but she is also a skillful forward who can play around the perimeter some, even pushing the ball in transition at times. She is a really nice mid-post scorer, her perimeter game continues to develop, but ultimately, she’s probably more of a ‘4’ defensively. As she continues to add discipline to her game offensively, look for more schools to show interest.
The difference in Scottlynn from 2020 to now is night and day. As an incoming Freshman, she showed definite potential. But I felt like she was stuck between positions, she still needed to grow and gain strength, and because of both of those things, she didn’t necessarily always play confident and consistent. Fast forward to now, and she is all of those things…taller, stronger, more confident, more consistent, and she is a highly productive forward. She can post and score around the block, plus she’s very capable in the mid-post.
