Insider Exposure hosted a number of the top teams from all across Florida as well as all across the country. We took in some of the action at Bolles School. Here are some of the class of 2023 top guards.
Olivia Davis Olivia Davis 5'7" | CG Cardinal Mooney | 2023 State FL (Cardinal Mooney) – 5’7 Guard
Davis is a lefty sniper who is super skilled and very efficient on the offensive end of the floor. Not playing the first quarter along with several of her teammates, she helped stage a comeback over a young and talented Chaminade Madonna squad. Davis was very good in ball screens in the middle of the floor – reading the defense and making excellent decisions. She shot a high percentage from 3 when the defense went under the ball screen, hit the roll leading them to the basket when they had a first step. Davis has good handle and plays under control. She never gets sped up and consistently controls the tempo with the ball in her hands.
Eleecia Carter Eleecia Carter 5'7" | CG Lake Highland Prep | 2023 State FL (Lake Highland Prep) – 5’8 Guard – Class of 2023
Carter was solid but not great. She is a high-level scorer who is a sharp shooter from 3. Having seen her several times, it was not her best performance as she was a bit passive in the first half. In the second half, she looked to be more aggressive and was more of a scoring threat.
Jazmine Major Jazmine Major 5'5" | CG Palm Bay Magnet | 2023 State FL (Palm Bay) – 5’6 Guard
Major played a bigger role for Palm Bay with Emma Risch Emma Risch 6'2" | PG Palm Bay | 2023 State #23 Nation FL hurt and Alonya Waldon Alonya Waldon 5'5" | CG Palm Bay Magnet | 2023 State FL coming off injury. Major played aggressive on both ends of floor, looking to get to rim in transition. She played both the point guard and shooting guard position. She was most effective in the half court, slashing to the rim from the wing and penetrating baseline.
Karina Gordon Karina Gordon 5'8" | CG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2023 State FL (St. Thomas Aquinas) – 5’8 Guard – Class of 2023
Gordon displayed her ability to impact the game at multiple levels. St. Thomas and Gordon were not at their best but Gordon still displayed her well rounded game on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. Her 5’8 athletic frame and aggressive play, make her an impactful defender that can guard opposing point guards in the full court. Offensively, she uses her height and body to attack of the bounce and get to the rim.
Reina Green Reina Green 5'10" | CG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2023 State FL (St. Thomas Aquinas) – 5’8 Guard – Class of 2023
Green’s athleticism stands out each time I see her play. She grabs balls out of the air well above her opponents, crashing the boards from the perimeter. Her high flying act is impressive to watch as she can finish well above the rim, elevates over defenders on her jumper, and blocks shots in the paint.
Teriyah McFadden Teriyah McFadden 5'5" | PG Dillard | 2026 State FL (American Heritage) – 5’7 Guard
McFadden is fast and aggressive with the ball in her hands. She has a quick first step, is hard to keep in front of and does a good job pushing the tempo and attacking the paint. Defensively she is equally as aggressive and a pesky on ball defender that can create chaos on the defensive end when she wants to get after opposing teams point guards.
Alonya Waldon Alonya Waldon 5'5" | CG Palm Bay Magnet | 2023 State FL (Palm Bay) – 5’6 Guard
Waldon is a University of Marshall signee who was coming off an injury after being in a cast for 2.5 months on her ankle. You could tell that she was a bit rusty and working on getting back into shape. But always enjoy her mentality and approach as she plays tough and aggressive every possession on both ends of the floor.
Mariah Mckenzie Mariah Mckenzie 5'8" | CG American Heritage Plantation | 2023 State FL (American Heritage) – 5’8 Guard
McKenzie is a big guard who is a versatile offensive player. Her frame stands out amongst her peers as she is bigger and stronger than most of her opponents. McKenzie was an effective penetrator and finished in the paint vs contact several times. She is one of the top unsigned prospects in the class of 2023.
