Not all the teams made it to the championship round, but several student/athletes excelled in their contributions to their prospective teams during the first two days of the tournament. The following is a list of those players and the value they add to their squads;
Morgan Caldwell 5’11” F Caddo Hills H.S. 2023-Morgan, pictured with the ball, can also play at the swing guard position. She usually plays facing the basket to utilize her length and shooting skills. She can hit the 3-ball or penetrate an open lane. Morgan is her team’s “field general” as the senior leader of the team. She has a clear size advantage and will use it when the opportunity offers.
Frida Campos 5’8″ F Danville H.S. 2024-Frida does all of her work in and around the paint. She’s a “blue collar” player who positions herself well for rebounds and picks up the 50-50 balls. She’s stronger than most of her opponents and can successfully post up taller players. Frida is one of those players that is always around the ball.
Libby Hood 5’11” PG Cutter Morning Star H.S. 2025-Libby has a size mismatch at the point guard position. She has an excellent skill set when she puts it on the floor. Libby work’s through traffic to penetrate the defense. Always facing the basket, the ball is in her hands on every possession. Once she gets a bit stronger she will be more efficient and productive.
Natalie Jackson 5’5″ PG Caddo Hills H.S. 2024-At point guard Natalie runs the offense. She can hit the three-ball but prefers to drive the lane to draw a foul or dish off to a teammate. She won’t get frazzled and keeps her cool. Natalie is not flashy but gets the job done.
Gracie Summit 5’5″ SG Mt. Ida H.S 2024-Gracie is a solid swing guard and probably handles the ball more than anyone else on the team. She doesn’t shoot many threes but can consistently hit the mid-range jumper. Her strength is ball control and setting up the offense. Normally she draws the toughest assignment on the defensive side.
Addey Wright 5’9″ SG Danville H.S. 2024-Addey is a shooter. She likes to set up at the free-throw line extended past the arc. More of a catch-and-shoot style player, Addey will penetrate the defense on occasion to create the foul. She knows how to get open using the screen to her advantage. If the defense lets her set up, she’s deadly!
Next, I’ll group my All-Tournament selections for the 2022 Larry Ray Tournament.
