Okay I made that name up yet this is the internet and just make-believe, but seriously, both are deserving and will be rewarded here are players already listed that performed well
Jadyn Atchison Jadyn Atchison 6'1" | SG Cedar Hill | 2023 State TX -6’1 G (Cedar Hill) Colorado
Atchinson is hard to handle, yeah she’s “long and athletic” and can elevate over defenders to drop her jumper with ease, mid to long-range yet her poise has always amazed me as she scores after contact, from outside. She also scores off the dribble after the lick but she adds rebounding on both ends, scoring around the basket, putbacks included, as well as handling the ball the length of the court. Her court vision is an added plus
Jules LaMendola Jules LaMendola 5'10" | SF Coppell | 2023 State TX -6’1 SG/SF (Coppell) Indiana
LaMendola left me speechless the first time I saw her and shortly after that initial sighting, I dropped #D1Lock. Her athleticism coupled with her body control attacking the basket was just something to see, and she was one of those players I got up to find out what her name was, but no roster was provided. Fast forward to now, she is just hard to handle not only from the outside but around the basket but she makes those around her better
Aliyah Carter Aliyah Carter 5'7" | SG Hendrickson | 2023 State TX -5’7 CG (Hendrickson) UT Permian Basin
Carter’s initials are AC yet she brings the heat on both ends and that has been the case since day 1. I enjoyed her speed with the ball, SWB, as well as her intensity on defense, she’s one of the top defensive guards in Texas. She also falls into that “never takes a play-off” group and with her explosiveness in the set, she blows by defenders for layups or dishes, and her midrange jumper is also a huge problem
Loghan Johnson Loghan Johnson 5'8" | CG Tompkins | 2023 State TX -5’8 SG (Houston Christian) Texas Tech
Johnson sold me years ago and her progression over the years kept elevating her status. I think her ability to “think the game” and understand how to get hers in the flow was part of my reasoning, yet she understands how to take over a game in the blink of an eye. She creates her shot under pressure, knocks down the mid to long-range, and scores off the dribble, yet she also does what I love to see, plays the passing lane which usually turns into points, either by her or from her assists
D’Asia Thomas D’Asia Thomas 6'3" | PF Houston Chrisitian | 2023 State TX -6’1 SF (Houston Christian) Georgia Tech
Thomas has kept expanding her game and after watching her trailer, so many memories of where she was to what she has become went through my head. From being a back-to-the-basket player that rebounded to being able to score not only around the basket but off the dribble from the wing has been nice. It becomes amazing because she can drop the mid to long-range jumper and when you factor in her size and handling the ball in the open court…
Aysia Proctor Aysia Proctor 5'7" | CG Clemens | 2023 State TX -5’9 SG (Clemens) UTSA
Proctor is one you don’t want to Gamble with was probably one of my first clever sayings about her ability to score. I didn’t see her team play in this event yet I’ve seen her consistency over the years to know what she’s capable of doing. Her midrange jumper will translate over to college easily but she also does a good job scoring off the dribble and can knock down the long ball. Court vision is another plus, so is her defense
Zanyra Adams Zanyra Adams 5'9" | SF Brennan | 2023 State TX -5’7 G/F (Brennan)
Adams is one of the toughest defenders in Texas yet watching her rebound against players “over the magic number” which is 6’0, continues to amaze me because she’s fearless and won’t back down against anyone. She dives on the floor for loose balls, she applies heat baseline to baseline, she understands how to force players into the trap and she just never takes a play-off. She plays the passing lane and hit a huge basket down the stretch
Jalayah Ingram Jalayah Ingram 5'8" | CG Houston Christian | 2023 State TX -5’7 CG (Houston Christian)
Ingram is explosive off the dribble yet watching her “cuff” the ball attacking the basket while using very good body control and finish after contact, at times acrobatically, has been something to see. The first time I saw her I mentioned her upside yet she was so fast with the ball yet she was under control, sees the floor and she is still playing the passing lane but just as important, she gets hers in the flow
