If you’ve been paying attention for the past 2 years for girls basketball in North Dakota you would know the name Kenmare-Bowbells. Back to back state title runs and primed again for a solid run this year. So far they’ve got a solid win on their record taking down current #7 in the state Thompson High School 44-35.
What truly separate’s this team though is there senior leaders. Brenna Stroklund Brenna Stroklund 6'0" | PF Kenmare | 2023 State ND the 6’0 PF that’s a true rim protector is a returning all-state player that changes the swing of any game with her presence. She compiled 87 blocked shots last year that was good for #2 in both Class A and B. Next senior leader on our list is PG Kate Zimmer Kate Zimmer 5'7" | PG Kenmare | 2023 State ND . A player that has superb court vision and a dead-eye 3 point shot. Zimmer can really stretch the floor for teams that play zone and can’t be left alone on the weak side of the court. When she penitrates the defense nothing but bad things happen for the oppenent.
Last senior leader we’ll touch on is Madison Melin Madison Melin 5'9" | SG Kenmare | 2023 State ND . 5’10 SF that is a pure sleeper on this team. Talk about a player that can score in a variety of ways, Melin can do that for you. When all eyes are on Stroklund and Zimmer the back door or swing pass is available for Melin to create and get to work. A silent scorer that can go for an easy 10 points on any given night.
With the graduation of these 3 senior leaders this year and examining this Honker team on paper they have 1 senior prepped for next year and an impressive 11 player sophomore class that has contributed some good minutes this year lead by PG Marshae Miller that knocked down 67 3 point shots this past year.
Expect to see this Kenmare squad being a state contestant for at least an additional 2 years after this one.
