Riley McCloskey Riley McCloskey 5'3" | PG Memorial | 2023 State TX -5’6 PG (Spring Branch Memorial)
McCloskey went on an offensive tear scoring multiple ways yet the long ball was dropping from everywhere. She scored and dished off the dribble yet her handling of the double and sometimes triple team also stood out. She consistently sees the floor from the length of the court as well as the set and her passes were on the money as usual
Savannah Catalon Savannah Catalon 5'8" | CG Mansfield Legacy | 2023 State TX -5’8 CG (Mansfield Legacy) Seton Hall
Catalon is another SC I caught early and knew her future was bright, as in #D1Lock around the 7th grade but her poise under pressure even back then was ahead of her years. She’s one of the most powerful guards off the dribble in the state, she also can score from outside, and watching her not only create her shot under pressure but drop it was very nice
McKenzie Smith McKenzie Smith 5'11" | SF Amarillo | 2023 State TX -6’0 F (Amarillo) North Texas
Smith scores off the dribble with either hand and she scores, off the dribble, with either hand. I enjoy watching her drop the pull-up jumper, both in the set as well as in transition as she simply elevates over defenders to let it go. She scores on putbacks, and after contact, plus she rebounds on both ends. She also can handle the ball in the open court and go coast to coast, plus her defense is solid
TiAna Davis TiAna Davis 5'5" | CG Sand Creek | 2023 TX -5’8 G (Frisco Lebanon Trail) Shorter
Davis put on a shooting exhibition including a buzzer-beating fadeaway while falling down, but her ability to create her shot coupled with her quick release made her hard to defend. Her first step sets everything up, play her too tight and she goes by you, give her an inch and she drops it but her athleticism also stood out on the defensive end and she brought some heat
Joy Madison-Key -5’7 CG (South Grand Prairie) Tulane
Madison-Key unlocked the door with her countless passes that were blazed by defenders for assist opportunities. She’s not only athletic, but also strong which enabled her to score off the dribble using good body control, and score after contact. She also dished while attacking the basket but her defense as well as playing the passing lane stood out as well
Torie Sevier Torie Sevier 6'4" | PF Braswell | 2023 State TX -6’4 F/C (Denton Braswell) Texas A&M Corpus Christi
Sevier is long and athletic, which will always be the base, and her ability to score around the basket using a variety of moves has always been a huge plus when you factor in her 76 inches. On top of that, she can face the basket and score as well as attack from the wing, while being defended. I also liked her timing on defense as she blocked, altered, and (or) deflected shots
Ja’Miya Brown Ja’Miya Brown 5'11" | SF North Little Rock | 2023 State AR -5’10 G (North Little Rock) SIU Edwardsville
Brown is also “long and athletic” and that will always be the base yet her first step leaves defenders cemented to the court. Her body control and acrobatic finishes were something to see, and so was her showing she could drop the jumper in the set, as well as the “stop and pop” in transition, both mid to long range. She also played the passing lane
Jules LaMendola Jules LaMendola 5'10" | SF Coppell | 2023 State TX -6’1 SG (Coppell) Indiana
LaMendola just amazes me, well she always did and after that initial sighting, I knew she was special. She can control the game without scoring, she’s just that good and her BB-IQ is just over the top. She sets her teammates up for easy baskets and scores however she wants, whenever she wants but her jumper as well as “hands and footwork” around the basket, were showcased to the max
Avari Berry Avari Berry 5'7" | PG Pfugerville | 2023 State TX -5’6 CG (Pflugerville)
Berry is one of the top unsigned guards in Texas, no question about her ability to play D1 because she does something that takes you from good to great and that’s “make those around you better”. I always go back to that 3rd or 4th grader dropping the long ball, she still does that but her weaving in transition to the basket to score or assist is always a boost for me. Her body control and ability to create contact make her “an and one waiting to happen”
Kylie Marshall Kylie Marshall 5'9" | CG Mansfield Lake Ridge | 2023 State TX -5’11 SG (Mansfield Lakeridge) Texas A&M
Marshall laid down the LAW, pun intended, with her variety of ways to drop it with a hand in her face. The mid to long-range was clicking, wait, she’s long and athletic, but her release is just something to see. I also enjoy her defying gravity around the paint as she attacks strongly but catching her playing the passing lane and scoring is also a “must-see”
