Continue ReadingThis, we hope, is the final part of our All-Cape Atlantic League Watch List for this season, with a number of new prospects to talk about. We’ll be talking about plenty more for the upcoming season, so be prepared for all of it in the coming days with new articles from PGH NJ.
Ava Vogdes Ava Vogdes 6'0" | C Wildwood Catholic Academy | 2024 State NJ – 6-0 C, Wildwood Catholic (2024)
Vogdes is a fantastic post player with a great feel for the game, which has translated well into her game. Her peak is an elite double-double level talent that can rack up multiple blocks a game while consistently scoring in plus percentage situations. She’s aggressive when she needs to be and leads down low for the Crusaders.
Madelynn Bernhardt Madelynn Bernhardt 5'7" | SF Our Lady Of Mercy | 2024 State NJ – 5-7 SF/SG Our Lady of Mercy (2024)
The junior class of the Cape is as strong as it’s ever been and Bernhardt is part of that list undoubtedly, having herself a strong sophomore season across the board. She’s a balanced player, really able to do it all, from shooting to perimeter and interior defense, to rebounding and scoring off-ball and on-ball. We like her play style and this season is destined to be a good one for her.
Kasey Bretones Kasey Bretones 5'10" | PG Mainland | 2024 State NJ – 5-11 PG/SG, Mainland Regional (2024)
A major rising talent in New Jersey, Bretones, funny enough, stars on NJ Rise during the AAU season and had quite the AAU season over the summer. She’s a near-complete player at the point guard position and her height as a guard only helps her game out. Taller guard benefit from height and length, but Bretones is just as creative and agile on the floor as anyone.
Eliott McCabe Eliott McCabe 5'10" | SF Wildwood Catholic | 2024 State NJ – 5-10 SF, Wildwood Catholic (2024)
McCabe has done a great job at continuously improving her range as a shooter and utilizing her size to gain that all-important advantage when putting up shots from deep. She was a reliable scorer and a key player for the Crusaders last year, something she’ll be that much more of come the 2022-23 campaign. We’re hoping to see some added strength and physicality to her game as well.
Savannah Prescott Savannah Prescott 5'5" | PG Our Lady Of Mercy | 2024 State NJ – 5-3 PG, Our Lady of Mercy (2024)
Another New Jersey Rise prospect, Prescott, while being an undersized guard, she’s really carved out a niche for herself on OLMA, especially as a scorer. Her rebounding is an underrated part of her game, thanks to her aggression on the glass and in the paint. Prescott’s best asset as a player is that perimeter defense, just swarming opponents to get steals or cause some sort of chaos to happen on the floor.
Emma Peretti Emma Peretti 5'11" | PF Hammonton | 2023 State NJ – 5-11 PF, Hammonton (2023)
Peretti, despite putting up some of the best stats anywhere in the state, was still very much an underrated talent. A two-sport athlete who will be continuing her track and field career at Yale, she’s one of the most dominant forwards that the Cape has seen in years. Nearly posting 20-16 stats last year, Peretti is ready to set the conference on fire as a senior.
Carly Murphy Carly Murphy 5'10" | SF Wildwood Catholic | 2023 State NJ – 5-10 SF/PF Wildwood Catholic (2023)
Murphy is one of a few forwards from Wildwood Catholic that’s really excelled from beyond the arc, the latter being her, a 5-10 forward, primarily playing as a small forward, who can just consistently knock down shots. With over 40 percent of her scoring coming from the three-point line, she’s going to be continuing that trend this season.
Drew Coyle Drew Coyle 5'5" | SG Our Lady of Mercy | 2023 State NJ – 5-5 SG/PG, Our Lady of Mercy (2023)
Calling Coyle a three and D style player would be a detriment to the rest of her game as her rebounding game has improved tremendously over the last three years. She’s playing with more experience, which breeds more confidence. The two are synonymous with each other and what a plus that’s been for her. Coyle is quite the complete package on offense as well, able to knock down or create shots from just about anywhere on the floor.
