Continue ReadingThe WOBM Classic has been an annual tradition in New Jersey for decades now and this year’s edition of the event is for sure one of the best yet. With Friday wrapping up action, we’re going to roll the clock back to Thursday to talk about some star performance from the day’s games.
Kaleigh Fitzgibbons Kaleigh Fitzgibbons SF Toms River East | 2024 State NJ – Toms River East (2024)
Fitzgibbons was a perfect 4-of-4 from the foul line but more importantly, she led TRE in scoring with 10 points, along with six rebounds and two steals. The 10 points were a career-high for her as she continues to get more minutes on the floor as a starter/6th woman, this season.
Hayley Tighe – Brick Memorial (2023)
Tighe hasn’t played much in her basketball career, but from early action this season, it looks like she’s going to play a big role for Brick Memorial. She knocked down two three-pointers and scored a team-high eight points in a low-scoring loss against Toms River East, but her play on the court was encouraging.
Devyn Quigley Devyn Quigley 5'10" | SG Manchester Township | 2024 State NJ – Manchester Township (2024)
Quigley had the game of her career to get into the 1000 point club for Manchester Township, scoring a career-high 47 points, going 11-of-11 from the foul line and recording 17 rebounds as well, her sixth double-double of the season and fourth-straight game with 40+ points for the Hawks. Currently, Quigley leads the state in scoring, averaging 39.4 PPG.
Zionna Short Zionna Short 5'7" | SF Manchester Township | 2024 NJ – Manchester Township (2024)
Short has been a great defensive asset for Manchester Township this season and she was at it again on Thursday, recording nine rebounds and two blocks for the Hawks in a win over Point Pleasant Boro. Her offense needs to come around more, but her defense has stayed consistently dominant throughout.
Katherine Henn Katherine Henn 5'10" | PF Point Pleasant Boro | 2025 NJ – Point Pleasant Boro (2025)
Henn is having quite the year for Point Pleasant Boro, scoring in double-figures in five of six games, including a 15-point performance against Manchester Township on Thursday. Coming off a season where she was averaging close to 5.0 PPG and RPG, Henn is averaging 13.3 PPG and nearly 6.0 RPG this season.
Vanessa Haas Vanessa Haas 5'7" | SG Point Pleasant Boro | 2025 NJ – Point Pleasant Boro (2025)
Through just six games as a sophomore, Haas has been more productive than the 24 games she played as a freshman, showing the growth she’s had as a player. Haas scored 13 points for Point Pleasant Boro on Thursday, setting a new career-high for her.
Marli Main – Donovan Catholic (2023)
Main is having her best season to date for Donovan Catholic and what better time to do it than in her senior year. She flooded the scoresheet with six points, three rebounds, two blocks and a steal in a close loss against Central Regional on Thursday.
Gabriella Ross Gabriella Ross 5'7" | SG Donovan Catholic | 2023 State NJ – Donovan Catholic (2023)
Ross is back at it again for Donovan Catholic this season, scoring at least 11 or more points in every game this season, including a team-high 13 points on Thursday. Her free throw shooting needs some work, but her ability to get to the foul line so often is just a remarkable feat.
Reece Paget – Lacey (2025)
Paget, kind of lost in the fray of last season’s team, has emerged this season on both sides of the floor. It was Thursday where we saw her best performance of the season: 10 points, six rebounds, five assists, three blocks and five steals. Those numbers, while difficult to sustain long-term, show the versatility she has in her skillset on the floor.
Ava Schmidt – Lacey (2026)
The freshman was bound to have a big time game this season, and Schmidt just happened to pick early in the season for that to happen, scoring a team-high 15 points for Lacey against Toms River South. It was her first time scoring in double-figures in high school.
Emma Wagner Emma Wagner PG Toms River South | 2023 State NJ – Toms River South (2023)
This was the breakout season that we’ve been waiting for from Wagner as she’s slowly worked her way up the totem pole. What better way to solidify herself than a career-high 24 points against Lacey, knocking down 5 three-pointers and recording four assists and seven steals. She was on her game and TRS responded as a whole.
Meaghan Weatherstone – Toms River South (2024)
Weatherstone, a more modest contributor last season, has relished as one of the more relied-upon players, more impact players to start out this season. She finished in double-figures once again, scoring 10 points along with five rebounds and a block. We’re expecting plenty more defensive success and that scoring has been an added benefit and welcomed addition to her game.
