Continue ReadingCE King at North Shore was a must-see game for me because I hadn’t seen the King squad all season and I know they have a solid nucleus capable of doing damage and possibly becoming a spoiler late in the season. On the other hand, I have caught North Shore probably 5 times since I opened the season with them hosting Hightower and seeing them in the Peggy Whiley Classic and their growth has been impressive. Speaking of impressive, here are the Top Performers from last night
North Shore
Shalayne Morgan Shalayne Morgan 5'9" | CG North Shore | 2023 State TX -5’8 SG [2023]
Morgan never ceases to amaze me with her explosiveness and athleticism. I know players that have that “turbo” burst in the open court to just leave defenders almost standing still yet her first step can do it in the set. I also got off to her countless off-balance finishes, her body control as well as scoring off the dribble with either hand was nice, and so was the short jumper. Needless to say, her intensity on both ends makes her one of those “never takes a play-off” type of player
Simran Williams Simran Williams 5'7" | SG North Shore | 2024 State TX -5’8 SG [2024]
Willaims was simply unconscious in the first half as she scored countless ways, I stopped counting, to put on one of the best offensive halves I’ve seen this season from an individual. Her pull-up jumper in the set, her stop-and-pop jumper in transition as well as her scoring off the dribble were all smoking. So was her dropping the long ball and with that being said, King had some tough defenders on her but she also showed the “catch and shoot”
Kobe Johnson-6’0 SF [2026]
Johnson is showing she can be a factor without scoring and the talented freshman, who will make her PGH Texas debut, on the next update in the new year, showed me some new things that will be effective in the coming years. She’s long and athletic, which will always be the base, and watching her elevate on her jumper JUST DOES IT for me. She also continues to score around the basket, yes, putbacks included, as she rebounds on both ends and altered some shots
King
Momina Kassim-5’9 SF [2024]
Kassim was impressive off the top showing the jumper from outside as well as being able to attack from the wing to score. She’s long and athletic, see above, and her TIMING was overly impressive as she blocked, altered, and (or) deflected a few shots. Her defense, on the ball, was solid, and she rebounded on both ends
Brooklyn Alexander Brooklyn Alexander 6'1" | PF CE King | 2024 State TX -6’0 PF [2024]
Alexander is one of the most improved players in the state, probably back-to-back seasons, and to go with her being “long and athletic”, I definitely enjoyed the “hands and footwork” combination in the paint. Not only does she receive the #THROWBACK hashtag for doing that, but she also finished around the basket, showed the short jumper, and rebounded on both ends
Kennedi Alexander Kennedi Alexander 6'0" | PF Channelview | 2024 State TX -6’0 SG [2024]
Alexander, yeah their twins, continues to show her transitioning into the shooting guard position. She elevates on her jumper, you probably ain’t gonna block it because of her length, athleticism, and UPS. Her form and release are right there but she also can create her shot under pressure as well as attack from multiple angles. She played the passing lane, you know I love that, and saw the floor, but wait, she also defended
