One of the best ways to celebrate the holidays is in a gym watching some basketball. I was able to attend day 3 of the Beebe Badger Classic and saw some great individual performances. I did miss the championship game, so I had to watch it on YouTube. Checkout some players below.
Sidni Middleton Sidni Middleton 5'10" | PG Vilonia | 2025 State AR | PG | Vilonia | 2025
I’ve seen Vilonia play several times over the past two years and each time I watch them I am more and more impressed with Sidni. I left the tournament before they played and had to watch the replay on YouTube, but Sidni put on a show. She is one of the few players I have seen this year that shoots the mid-range at a high clip. And people say the mid-range is dead. Whether it was off the dribble in the half-court, pulling up in transition, or the catch and shoot, her mid-range was money. As she continues to play at a high level she could lead her team to a deep play-off run.
Maddie Mannion Maddie Mannion 5'11" | SF Vilonia | 2026 State AR | Wing | Vilonia | 2025
There’s a song that says, “Do it one time, they gon’ think it’s luck/Gotta hit ‘em with the repeat/Do it two times, they gon’ still doubt/Ayy, now I got a three-peat”. Well how about 8 times. What will they think if you do it 8 times? Maddie had her flame thrower rocking in the championship game with a school record 8 made threes vs Lakeside. The freshman player had the jumper working and helped lead her team to the Beebe Badger Classic Tournament Championship. If she continue to be consistent from behind the three-point line, Vilonia will definitely be a threat heading into conference play and the post season.
Sara McCain | Wing | Searcy | 2024
Sara caught my attention right away. Her ability to move without the ball was some of the best I’ve seen all season. Some players just move, but with no purpose. Sara would cut towards the ball with the purpose of making a play. And in these instances it was to shoot. She exhibited great footwork off the catch, she was ready to shoot, and she has great form. Whenever Sara was one pass away or cut towards the ball she was always ready to let it fly. Her mid-rang jumper was on point in mid-range even if you closed out. She had the ability to make jumpers over the top of the defense with a hand in her face. She also got out quick on the break. When her team secured the defensive rebound she would fly down the floor looking for the ball for the easy finish.
Calle Citty | Forward | Harding Academy | 2023
Calle had a very impressive performance against the host team Beebe. Her size and versatility gave her an advantage on interior and perimeter. She runs the floor well during transition and in the half-court she did a great job of moving without the ball when there was penetration. Calle often found herself in the right spot at the right time to receive a dump off pass for a lay-up or short jumper in the lane. She also showed she could attack off the bounce and make plays for others. But she really did her work on the offensive boards. If her opponent didn’t get a body on her she would hunt down the ball and score the put back with ease.
McKenney Sheffield | Guard | Harding Academy | 2023
McKenney showed a number of different skills that were impressive. She has a nice shooting stroke that was on display vs Beebe. She’s a good spot up shooter from behind the three point line. McKenney also has the ability to attack closeouts and get to the rim for the finish. She showed her quick decision making skills in the half-court, her athleticism was really put on display when she got out on the break, she knocked down the mid-range pull-up off the dribble and she made good passes in transition.
