The gym was packed with screaming Lady Warhawk fans looking to get revenge on the Lady Bulldogs. Mt. Vernon-Enola got their revenge as they took down Quitman 56-26. Let’s take a look at the players that stood out in this game.
Dessie McCarty Dessie McCarty 6'2" | C Mt. Vernon | 2024 State AR | Forward | Mt. Vernon-Enola | 2024
Dessie is ranked the #1 player in the state in the class of 2024. She put on a dominating performance on the both the interior and perimeter. Dessie controlled the paint with both her rebounding and shot blocking ability. Anytime someone from Quitman drove into the lane they had to finish over the 6’2 forward. Offensively she scored any way she wanted. Dessie put the ball on the floor from the perimeter and finished with runners, she posted up, and she connected on four 3 pointers. It’s going to be real interesting to see how she continues to play as her team finishes conference and heads into post season play.
Marlee Raby Marlee Raby 5'8" | CG Mt. Vernon-Enola | 2024 State AR | PG | Mt. Vernon-Enola | 2024
Marlee was really impressive with her pace. She never seemed rushed or in a hurry. The junior point guard did an excellent job of recognizing when to push the ball and when to slow it down and get her team into the half-court offense. When she did attack, she did a great job of combing change of pace with change of direction. This kept the defense off balance and allowed her to get in the lane to finish at the rim. If she continues to make plays and run the team the way she did, Mt. Vernon-Enola has a really good chance of making a deep playoff run.
AJ Person AJ Person 5'7" | CG Mt. Vernon-Enola | 2024 State AR | Guard | Mt. Vernon-Enola | 2024
Every team needs a flame thrower. A player that can knockdown shots and stretch the defense. A zone buster or a pure shooter. AJ hit four 3’s vs Quitman. If she can continue to be a threat from behind the three-point line, it will not only open up other areas of her game, but also for her teammates. Her ability to shoot the ball starts well behind the three-point line. She has NBA range. AJ also showed that she has the ability to attack off the dribble and get in the lane and finish at the rim. She is another key piece to Mt. Vernon-Enola making a deep playoff run. If she can continue to make shots and be a threat from deep, the sky is the limit for her team.
Silver Mulliniks Silver Mulliniks 5'9" | SF Quitman | 2023 State AR | Guard | Quitman | 2023
Silver did her best trying to hold it down for her team. The senior guard scored in a variety of ways. Silver showed off her nice mid-range pull up jumper and her ability to score in transition. She attacked well off the dribble with a nice change of direction and finish in lane in traffic over the rotational defender. She also moved well without the ball. Silver made nice play out of the mid post with a quick move to the middle of the lane to finish over the help defender.
