With the Sectional draw this coming Sunday and about a week and a half remaining in the regular season, I wanted to take the time to look back on what has been in Class 2A so far this year, highlighting a handful of teams and prospects, and preparing for the postseason. This won’t necessarily be as detailed as our Sectional previews, as the draw will help lay out those matchups and odds to win. However, I did think it was a great opportunity to take note of some of the happenings in Class 2A at this time.

Class 2A Top Teams:
For the 2022-2023 season, Class 2A is packed full of quality teams who can make deep playoff runs beginning in two weeks. Creating the Class 2A Preseason Top-10 Poll wasn’t easy, but still not far off. Of the four teams missing from the current Sagarin Top-10, Winchester (15-6) is #13 in the Sagarin Ratings, but four of their six losses have come to teams like 3A #2 Jay County (18-1), 4A #1 South Bend Washington (19-0), 4A #8 Columbia City (17-2), and 4A Lawrence North (12-8). They should be tournament ready, but they’ll have to battle Lapel, Wapahani, and Alexandria-Monroe in Sectional #40. Carroll (Flora) (17-3) comes in at #11 in the Sagarin Ratings, while Pioneer (16-3) and Triton Central (15-4) have had strong seasons as well. Who has excelled are Central Noble and Blackford behind very experienced backcourt play, while teams like Eastern Hancock and North Knox have used great depth and some youthful talent to put together their resume so far.

, 2025, 5-7 G, Alexandria-Monroe H.S.
– Jacklynn has put together an impressive Sophomore season, and consistency has been the theme. Averaging 24.0 points per game, the second-year guard has been held to single-digits just once (8 points), she has scored in the 30s on six different occasions, but everything else has fallen somewhere in between. She is getting stronger and stronger with the ball, she scores it consistently at all three levels, and she really understands how to use the free throw line as a weapon, shooting 81% (81-100) from 15-feet, plus she has shot as many as 15 or more free throws on three different occasions. She is also a problem defensively, where her length has helped her collect 4.9 steals per game.

, 2023, 5-7 G, Greencastle H.S.
– There are a number of factors Gloria still remains somewhat under-recruited. First, she was originally a member of the 2022 class after spending time with the Indianapolis Homeschool Wildcats program. Obviously COVID got in the way with recruiting as well, but she also reclassified to the Class of 2023 for this season and enrolled at Greencastle H.S. With that said, she didn’t play much grassroots ball last Spring or Summer, which certainly could have helped with visibility. Regardless, she has a high IQ for the game, she’s a tough-nosed, physical guard with an outstanding motor, and she does just about everything well. She can flat out score, she can create, and she can run offense.
Impressive Freshman:

Lapel | 2026

, 2026, 6-0 F, Lapel H.S.
– There are several talented Freshmen making waves in Class 2A, but Laniah tops the list because of the combination of her talent, her skill, and her proven productivity. To average a double-double against what is currently considered to be a Top-75 schedule, regardless of class, is impressive. Her 15.9 points (#21 in Class 2A) and 13.4 rebounds per game (#1 in Class 2A) both lead a strong Lapel squad, but the potential was evident as early as 6th Grade. She has always been a long, wiry, and athletic prospect with a little more height than most peers. She can play some around the block or the perimeter, but her ability in the mid-post is elite amongst all prospects, older and younger as well.
