The Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational wrapped up this weekend hosting 100+ teams from all over the country. With over 100 teams in attendance, there were a ton of talented teams and players in the gym both from Florida and out of state. We will break down the event all week. In this take, we break down the top five unsigned seniors that college coaches should be taking a look at.
Reina Green Reina Green 5'10" | CG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2023 State FL (St. Thomas Aquinas) – 5’9 Guard
Green has always been one of my favorites. She is an elite athlete, that is an effective penetrator, has a major vertical, and 3-point range. She is a high academic student who is one of the state’s top unsigned seniors and if you are a college coach looking at potentially signing a high school prospect in the late signing period, Green needs to be on their radar!
Michelle Ugwah Michelle Ugwah 6'2" | PF DME Academy | 2023 State FL (DME National) – 6’0 Forward
Ugwah has a great body and build and is one of the top available post players in the class of 2023. She comes off the bench for DME National and is an effective rebounder, runs the floor hard, and finishes well in the paint. Ugwah burst onto the scene in July and grabbed college coaches’ attention but remains unsigned. Any college coach that is looking for a 6’0+ interior player that runs the floor, rebounds, and gives interior presence, they need to look at Ugwah.
Tyra Brown Tyra Brown 6'2" | SF Fort Myers | 2023 State FL (Fort Myers) – 6’3 Forward
Show up to warmups for a Fort Myers game and Tyra 6’3 frame immediately jumps out at you. She is long, athletic, runs the floor like a deer, rebounds, and blocks shots. Her offensive skill set is underdeveloped and her motor can go up and down but her combo of size and athleticism are very intriguing, making her one of the top post prospects available in the class of 2023.
Janessa Williams Janessa Williams 5'10" | SF King’s Academy | 2023 State FL (Kings Academy) – 5’9 Guard / Wing
Williams is a hybrid player that can the guard, wing, and as an undersized forward. Her versatility and high motor and the major attractions to this 5’9 prospect. Williams plays the majority of the game every time she steps on the court and covers a ton of ground. She is a utility player that can guard multiple positions, can score from the perimeter and off the dribble, and she does all the dirty work. College coaches need to watch Janessa Williams Janessa Williams 5'10" | SF King’s Academy | 2023 State FL play multiple games, as she is a coach’s dream and would be a positive influence both on and off the court to any college programs roster.
Eleecia Carter Eleecia Carter 5'7" | CG Lake Highland Prep | 2023 State FL (Lake Highland Prep) – 5’7 Guard
Carter has a slender build, with a high level of athleticism and can play both the point guard and shooting guard position. She is one of the state’s top 3-point threats and does a good job balancing being a threat from the outside and attacking off the dribble. Any college looking for a capable ball handler, that can play both guard spots, knock down open 3s and is an athletic defender who is effective in up tempo games, Carter should be someone to take a look at.
Alancia Ramsey Alancia Ramsey 6'0" | PF St Thomas Aquinas | 2023 State FL (St. Thomas Aquinas) – 6’1 Forward
Ramsey did not play and is likely out till February but could be available late at the end of the season and for the state playoffs. She is the # 1 available class of 2023 player despite her injury. She has been one of the most effective interior post players for several years both on the EYBL scene for Essence and on the prep scene for American Heritage and St. Thomas Aquinas. At 6’1, she is typically undersized vs high level competition but plays with a big heart, a competitive spirit and an edge to her. She is always the most aggressive and physical players on the court, using her hips, shoulders, and elbows to make her presence known in the paint.
