Earlier in the day, Northside Christian Academy hoisted the state championship trophy at the boys’ event. They then packed the stands to watch the girls’ team do the same as they took on Crossroads Christian in the 1A state championship defeating them 57-37. With as much young talent as this team has, I I wouldn’t be surprised if this starts a dynasty as there will be years to come where they can compete against anyone.
Let’s take a look at the standouts from the Knights.
Tyler Collins was the leading scorer for the Knights. She did a nice job grabbing steals and pushing it up the court finding her open teammates. Her pesky defense seemed to get inside the heads of her opponents as she was constantly blocking their path from getting a play going. She has a nice shot from deep that she showed off in transition, and she was ready for the pass and some points by the basket.
Brianna Carelock
Brianna Carelock
Brianna Carelock was a nuisance on defense jumping in front of the passes and pushing the tempo with her dribbles up the court. She is so quick handling the ball jumping in the way of her opponents and driving it the other direction. Even as a freshman, she was calm and composed in the fourth quarter making sure to add some points with free throws down the stretch.
Amani Womack
Amani Womack
Amani Womack knocked down a nice shot from deep in transition. She was aggressive on defense constantly making stops for her team, and she had a nice floater off a steal scoring two points. She was patient waiting for the right time to make her drive to the hoop for points.
Zoe Henderson showed off her IQ jumping into passing lanes to grab the steal. She was available on a fast break if she wasn’t the one grabbing the steal, and finished at the rim. She got inside making sure she could get the rebound.
Let’s take a look at some of the stars from Crossroads Christian Colts.
Elyssa Phillips
Elyssa Phillips
Elyssa Phillips was the leading scorer for her team as she knocked down her shot from deep hitting it in transition. She got inside driving hard to the hoop scoring on multiple levels. She was quick on defense being ready to jump into action to deflect a pass. She had some nice moves to create space and attack the hoop with her jump shots.
Abby Taylor
Abby Taylor
Abby Taylor had some nice range with her shot. She could shoot it off the pass, or she can use her own crossovers to get some space and score her points. She ran the point position well finding her open teammates underneath the basket.
