I love runs, and I love upsets, both on the court as well as in the stands when I hear complaining, yeah I used to do it. Still, I actually had reasons over and over but that’s another story so as I was getting bored with the first half, I did my wraparound to see other games to try and hold my attention.
I wrote the times down, yet I went by the NFHS schedule which had some of the game times jacked up, like some of the team’s rosters showing players that transferred or graduated years ago but I got through it and decided to backtrack to Seven Lakes vs Memorial and I was actually glad I did and here are the STANDOUTS
SEVEN LAKES
Justice Carlton Justice Carlton 6'1" | PF Seven Lakes | 2024 State TX [2024] was hard to handle at times and watching her score from mid to long-range as well as attacking the basket shows how much she has added to her game and is no longer just a “back to the basket” player. With that being said, she scored almost at will in the paint, she battled for rebounds and that “hands and footwork” combination still grabs me
Madison Carlton Madison Carlton 6'2" | PF Seven Lakes | 2026 State TX [2025] continues to elevate her game like she’s elevating off the floor, I’ve probably used that like before but I’m serious, she has taken her game to another level since catching her earlier this season at the Peggy Whitley Classic has really impressed me. She’s more poised and under control, finishing around the basket, with either hand and her timing to block, alter, and (or) deflect shots JUST DID IT for me
Their supporting cast of Lenore Hudsmith [2024] Caitlyn Quintero [2024} and Shreya Jategoankar [2024] are a trio of guards that dropped the long ball, in fact, Hudsmith dropped multiple three pointers early and Jategonkar did the same late as they made that dramatic run
MEMORIAL
Riley McCloskey Riley McCloskey 5'3" | PG Memorial | 2023 State TX [2023] impressed me from day 1 because of her “poise under pressure” playing up yet her ability to run a team is one of the reasons they held on last night. I love “time management” and making great decisions and she did just that yet she also through those blistering passes on the money, with either hand, for assist opportunities as well as scored when she needed to
Abigail Tomaski Abigail Tomaski 6'0" | SG Memorial | 2023 State TX [2023] has been dropping the long ball since her coach gave me a heads-up when she was a freshman. Her rebounding on both ends, as well as her pull-up jumpers, were big last night, and so was her defense and playing the passing lane
Nicolette Polocheck Nicolette Polocheck 6'0" | PF Memorial | 2024 State TX [2024] was going after everything off the rim, she even scored on putbacks as well as around the rim. She also showed she could take the defender off the dribble as well as drop the jumper but her interior defense was definitely part of their win
Draden Moss Draden Moss 6'0" | SG Houston Memorial | 2026 State TX -6’0 SG [2026] was on FIRE last night, in fact, the fire alarm went off at Campbell Center, it’s documented, unlike many, I don’t make things up yet she made up a few one-liners for me to TWEET as she dropped at least 5 from BTA
Ivy Oliver-5’9 PG [2026] will be running the 1 after the McCloskey era and based on what I’m seeing now, the Mustangs will be in good hands. She scored off the dribble, including down the stretch to help slow Seven Lakes’ momentum, and she also played the passing lane
Kendall Lyons-5’9 SG [2024] grabbed some huge rebounds, on both ends but even more importantly, she played within herself and stayed under control, on both ends
