Those two teams were 4A Riverside and 3A Travelers Rest as they met up this time at the home of the Devildogs. Thursday evening’s get-together between the Warriors and Devildogs turned out to be a classic tale of two halves, with Riverside prevailing where it mattered most by a final tally of 68-53.
The win ups the Warriors’ record to 18-5 this season while Travelers Rest now stands at a .500 mark of 10-10.
Jan. 17
It was on Jan. 17 that the two teams met at Riverside HS. The Warriors got the better of the Devildogs on that occasion as well with the final score being 59-38.
Down In Class
Both Riverside and Travelers Rest have the distinction of being two teams who are playing down in class as opposed to last season. The Warriors are currently a 4A team after playing in 5A last season and the Devildogs are now competing in 3A from 4A in 2021-22.
Quarter By Quarter
From start to finish, it was a game that was filled with efficient offense. Travelers Rest managed to be a bit more efficient than Riverside in the opening frame. The Devildogs led the Warriors 13-8 with one quarter in the books.
What was a five-point edge for the Devildogs grew into a double-digit, 10-point advantage following the conclusion of the second stanza. Travelers Rest, who was 5-3 at home entering Thursday evening’s play had a 33-23 lead over Riverside at the half.
It was in the third quarter where the Warriors began resembling the assembling that has given other 4A teams fits throughout the season. Riverside began the third quarter with a 7-0 run and that momentum continued through the majority of those eight minutes. It was a 46-40 lead for the Warriors after three complete.
Offense and defense continued to click for Riverside in the fourth quarter and it was only a matter of time before the Warriors once again found themselves in the win column. Riverside’s margin of victory on Thursday was 15.
“We work really hard on our press and our girls fought back really strong to get some offensive boards that made the difference in the game,” Riverside coach Brianne Jones said.
Youth Movement
The Warriors are a team that is defined by its youth movement – and said movement was on display once again. It was spearheaded on Thursday evening by Kyndal Haroski Kyndal Haroski 5'8" | SG Riverside | 2026 State SC , who placed 20 points on the scoreboard – much of it coming in the second half.
Madison Garrido entered Thursday’s matchup off the bench and was vital to the Riverside comeback effort. The sophomore finished with 14 points and had plenty of success attacking the basket, connecting on midrange opportunities and converting on free throw chances.
Speaking of sophomores, Elly Trickett Elly Trickett 5'8" | PF Riverside | 2025 State SC , the team’s sophomore in the frontcourt managed a 12-point performance. Scoring and rebounding are among the many strong points to Trickett’s overall game.
“I think we’re competing very well. And hopefully we’ll be in a higher seed so we can move on and make it pretty far in the state playoffs,” Warriors coach Brianne Jones on how she feels about her team as we inch closer to postseason play.
Have Talent, Will Travel
For the Devildogs, their leading point-getter also was a freshman. Jadin Dandy Jadin Dandy 5'6" | SF Travelers Rest | 2026 State SC put 21 points on the board – 13 of which occurred in the first half. She particularly had plenty of success connecting on her midrange opportunities.
Gabriella Huskey tallied 12 points. She is listed as a 5-foot-7 junior guard who also assumes team captaincy duties for Travelers Rest. Huskey had one of the team’s only two 3-pointers the Devildogs made.
Ellie Crain finished with 11 points. Crain is listed as the tallest player on the Devildogs roster as a 5-foot-11 sophomore. Among the 11 she placed on the scoreboard were five made free throws.

Both teams will resume region play next week. Riverside will be on the road at Wade Hampton and Travelers Rest will host Blue Ridge to close out the Devildogs’ regular season.
