Mc Dowell is one of if not the top prospects in the area and her 24/8 paved the way for them to move to the Elite 8 in Region 1 as they defeated Oak Ridge who was led offensively by Taylor Jones Taylor Jones 5'5" | CG Oak Ridge | 2024 State TX who seemed to be dropping shots each time I did my wraparound back to their game
In Region 2, North Crowley won a nailbiter over Pebble Hills who were led by their BAM-BAM duo of Jordan Sapien-G [2025] and Kiana Valdez-5’7 G/F [2023] Sapien was on fire, dropping 34 points on a variety of ways while Valdez helped control the tempo
North Crowley’s Big 3 of Brandy Jones Brandy Jones 5'9" | CG North Crowley | 2023 State TX , Amiya Hopkins Amiya Hopkins 6'2" | PF North Crowley | 2023 State TX , and Kendall Robinson Kendall Robinson 5'9" | SG North Crowley | 2024 State TX provided much of the offense while Baylee Mitchell Baylee Mitchell 5'6" | CG North Crowley | 2023 State TX and her late lockdown defense helped seal the victory while the progression from freshman Jamari Milton Jamari Milton 5'4" | PG North Crowley | 2026 State TX has played a major part in the team’s success.
Jumping back to Region 1, I caught much of Langham Creek’s win over Spring, here are the standouts
Spring
Za’kenya Thompson-5’6 PG [2024]
Thompson is athletic and showed she could score off the dribble and finish strongly. She also did a good job of handling the ball and seeing the floor. She understands positioning, which enabled her to rebound plus she played the passing lane but she also handled the ball in the open court after the steal, while being pressured
Langham Creek
Aniyah Sanford Aniyah Sanford 5'5" | PG Langham Creek | 2023 State TX -5’3 PG [2023]
Sanford did what she does and that’s run her team. It’s always good to see players that understand how to control the tempo but her on-the-money passes got her teammates’ easy looks, she also scored when needed, both off the dribble and from outside
Eryn Lloyd-5’4 CG [2023]
Lloyd has always been known for her defense yet her progression over the years offensively has made her a threat as she drops the pull-up jumper and scores off the dribble consistently but again, her on-the-ball pressure was there as well
Heather Baymon Heather Baymon 5'6" | PG Langham Creek | 2024 State TX -5’6 CG [2024]
Baymon is one of those players that can score both “in the flow” and “in droves” and her mid to long-range creates so many problems for defenders. Why, well because of her first step, and that, combined with her body control gives her options, as well as keeps the defender guessing. She also drops the “stop and pop” in transition with ease
Brooke Prevost-5’10 SF [2026]
Prevost has been a pleasant surprise in her freshman season and she too continues to show progression each time I catch her squad. I love her upside, she’s “long and athletic” which is the base but her timing on defense as well as playing the passing lane at this stage is big, well so is her scoring from the wing off the dribble
