Hudson
After going to the state championship game in D1 a few years ago, they lost all of their seniors and took a step back, developing their sophomores a year ago. This season, those now juniors and seniors are ready to compete. They have solid pieces all over the floor, and they don’t have any weak spots with their starting five. Olivia Grothaus, Grace Lewis, and Ella Carstensen are one of the more well-rounded trios in the sectional. The Raiders have every right to believe they’ll play in sectionals again this season.
New London
The Bulldogs have plenty of solid pieces, including the Mix twins and Shelby Glodowski. However, their postseason ambitions will likely come down to how well senior and St. Thomas commit Lizzie Steingraber Lizzie Steingraber 5'10" | SF New London | 2023 State WI plays. Steingraber is one of the best passers I’ve seen this season and has some of the best court vision you’ll find. She’ll consistently give her team 20 points and get her teammates good looks all night long. If her teammates make those shots, the Bulldogs will be a tough out.
Kimberly
I don’t think there is a team that’s had more experience in close games this season. It feels like every game the Papermakers play is within five points, and to be fair to them, they’re 5-2 in games decided by five points or less. MaKenzie Drout MaKenzie Drout 5'9" | CG Kimberly | 2023 State WI has experience playing big games for the Papermakers and has plenty of talented sophomore teammates. There aren’t many teams who have a deeper sophomore class than Kimberly. Bentley Drout Bentley Drout 5'4" | PG Kimberly | 2025 State WI , Raegean Krueger, and Katelyn McGinnis Katelyn McGinnis 5'10" | CG Kimberly | 2025 State WI are all kids who can swing a game in a couple of possessions.
Wittenberg-Birnamwood
I don’t know if there’s a kid in D4 who I trust to make challenging shots like Reese Rogowski. The senior will be a track athlete at North Dakota State, but if she wanted, I’m sure she could’ve gotten a scholarship to play basketball. When Rogowski gets going, there isn’t much a kid can do to stop her because she’s so athletic. Keep an eye on Wittenberg-Birnamwood, because Rogowski can score in bunches and stay in front of just about any guard in D4.
