Coral Mason Coral Mason 5'10" | CG Viborg-Hurley | 2023 State SD – Viborg/Hurley – 5’10” F – Class of 2023 PGH Ranking – 8th
Coral climbed into the top 10 in our current rankings and could rise even more by the time her senior season comes to an end. She is a stat stuffer who scores, rebounds, passes, turns her opponent over, and blocks shots. On the defensive end she generally gets the task of guarding other people’s best and can guard spots 1-5. She moves well, knows how to use her body, and is able to play aggressive defense without fouling. On offense, she can hit from outside, attack the basket, and create her own shots and shots for others. Per MaxPreps stats she averages 18.5 PPG, snags 9.2 RPG, dishes out 2.8 APG, grabs 1.8 SPG, and blocks 1.8 shots per game. She shoots a very effective overall FG% of 59%, hits 35% of her three’s, and makes people pay for fouling hitting 73% of her shots from the foul line.Throw in the fact that she plays nearly 32 minutes per contest yet only turns it over 1.5 times per game, and you have a really talented player and one of the best all around talents in the state of South Dakota. Her Cougar team will look to repeat as Class B State Champions and send her off with more hardware.
Ellie Lems Ellie Lems 6'0" | SG Sioux Falls Christian | 2023 State SD – Sioux Falls Christian – 6′ 0″ G/F – Class of 2023 PGH Ranking – 11th
Ellie is near cracking the top 10 and could get there yet by the end of this season. She plays with an intense motor, and maximum effort at all moments of every game. Ellie is a defensive juggernaut who matches up with talented guards, forwards, or centers. She can guard nearly anyone and every opponent she has played has had a tough time scoring with players she defends. Toughness is a term I use over and over again when I see Lems play. She’s a physical defender, tough-nosed rebounder, and an aggressive scorer on offense. One of the best scorers around the paint she can score off the dribble-drive as well as post touches with ease. Her Sioux Falls Christian squad looks poised for a state tournament run to cap off her career.
Jaida Young Jaida Young 5'7" | CG Watertown | 2023 State SD – Watertown – 5’7″ G – Class of 2023 PGH Ranking – 19th
Jaida cracks the top 20 in the Class of 2023 as one of the most aggressive guards you can find in the state. She loves to get up and pressure her opponent and makes it extremely tough on whoever she is defending. Footwork, anticipation, and high IQ make her a fantastic perimeter defender. Her transition game is extremely fast and she can take it to the other end in what seems like the blink of an eye. She’s a great finisher at the rim and has a variety of moves that allow her to get to the rack zone and score. Pair this with a quick release on a solid outside shot and you have a scorer that can fill it up from all over.
Jadyn Jensen Jadyn Jensen 5'10" | SG Jones County | 2023 State SD – Jones County – 5’10” G/F – Class of 2023 PGH Ranking – 20th
Jadyn is a prospect that stands out from the crowd physically. She’s 5’10”, extremely long, has an impressive vertical, and has great quickness to go along with it. She can score from any area on the floor from the paint to the three. A smart attacker within the offense she finds gaps to get in and get the ball to the rim. She’s a true facilitator who makes everyone else around her better because she can get her own plus draw attention to get teammates open. A double-double machine she boards hard as well on both ends to go along with her scoring. Her length and athleticism make her a really solid defender who can keep people from the rim and block shots even if they get there. Stock is up on a super talented, underrated senior who has her squad poised to make a run to the state tournament.
Remington Price Remington Price 5'7" | SG Pierre | 2023 State SD – Pierre – 5’6″ G – Class of 2023 PGH Ranking – 21st
Remi is a natural born scorer of the basketball. Over 1,000 points on her career she can absolutely light it up from deep. If you give her an inch she can get her shot off and has zero hesitation. She plays with unmatched confidence and makes everyone on the floor with her better. An all time three point leader at Pierre she has been filling up the stat sheet since 8th grade at the varsity level. High IQ, tenacity, and a solid perimeter defensive skillset add to her ranking and make her more than just a lights out shooter. She has been a fantastic leader for the Governors and has them looking like a contender in the AA state tournament.
Kate Connor Kate Connor 6'0" | C Howard | 2023 State SD – Howard – 6’0″ C – Class of 2023 PGH Ranking – 30th
Connor is one of the better players in this class with her back to the basket and her plethora of double-doubles this season has her climbing the rankings. She’s a physical presence who changes the game on defense with her ability to block shots and grab rebounds. On offense she has fantastic footwork and refuses to be guarded down low. If you play behind her she makes you pay with really fundamentally sound and aggressive post moves. If you front her, she uses her strength to seal and can go up and catch the lob pass and score it. Another team that looks ready to make a run for a state tournament it will be fun to see what Kate and the rest of her Tiger squad do.
Maddie Horn Maddie Horn 5'11" | SG Castlewood | 2023 State SD – Castlewood – 5’11” G/F – Class of 2023 PGH Ranking – 35th
Maddie is another prospect on this list that has all the physical tools to play at the next level. She is long, athletic, smart, and plays aggressively on both ends. She’s a matchup nightmare for her opponents, if you defend her with a post she will take you off the dribble and drain shots from the outside, if you put a guard on her she can use her strength and smarts to score in the paint. Horn has a smooth jump shot with an effective release point and can score over her defender at will. Playing for a perennial state tournament contender program in Castlewood has helped her gain a skill-set and a mindset that are ready to win.
Trinity Watson Trinity Watson 5'7" | CG Florence/Henry | 2023 State SD – Florence/Henry – 5’7″ G – Class of 2023 PGH Ranking – 38th
Trin is a talented guard and one of the most aggressive athletes on this list. She is climbing the rankings as a talented defender who can lock down perimeter players and an offensive player who is very effective at getting to her spots to score. She plays with great tempo and can turn the game into a track meet with her ability to push the ball in transition. An unselfish player she will look to set up teammates and facilitate to make them better while still understanding when to get her own on the offensive end. On defense she causes a high number of turnovers and helps convert them to primary offense at the other end. She provides great leadership on a relatively young Florence-Henry team that does not have a large number of seniors. Trinity and her Falcon teammates are having a very successful season and look like Class A State Tournament contenders as we head into the postseason.
Allison Muckey Allison Muckey 5'10" | SF Andes Central/Dakota Christian | 2023 State SD – Andes Central/Dakota Christian – 5’10” G/F – Class of 2023 PGH Ranking – 56th
Allison is a player that will be new to some on this list. She plays for the Thunder from AC/DC (you have to love that mascot choice that was made for this coop) and she is a very under the radar player out there right now. She is capable of dropping point values in the 20’s night in and night out and does it from a variety of spots where he is extremely efficient. She can hit the three, score off the drive, and even score with her back to the basket. She has great length and an impressive set of ball skills at 5’10”. On defense she plays very smart and reads the floor and her opponent well. She rebounds hard from the perimeter and does the little things for her squad to go along with her immense scoring talent. The Thunder will be a threat to contend for a state tournament experience and in large part due to Muckey’s leadership and playing ability.
Ally Abraham Ally Abraham 5'11" | PF Hamlin | 2023 State SD – Hamlin – 5’11” F/C – Class of 2023 PGH Ranking – 57th
Ally is a perfect fit for post play in today’s game. She has a great frame and physicality to be able to post up and can step out and hit perimeter shots as well. A great rebounder who reads it well off the rim and goes after it, Abraham is an asset to her team on both ends of the floor. She spaces the floor very effectively and has one of the best jump shots of any post players in the area. Playing for a very successful program for a number of years has left her with a very fundamentally sound skillset and a high IQ. Her Charger team looks like the favorite to send Ally off with a Class A state championship title.
