On Friday, we kick off the girls portion of the tournament with two outstanding matchups. The reigning champion Montverde Academy Lady Eagles will be taking the floor in the second game as they take on the Westtown Moose out of West Chester, Pennsylvania.
The Montverde Academy Eagles have a loaded roster once again as they are under 3rd year head coach Special Jennings and are looking for their second consecutive national championship. The Eagles are led by Mississippi State signee Mjracle Sheppard Mjracle Sheppard 5'8" | CG Montverde Academy | 2023 State FL , South Carolina signee Sahnya Jah Sahnya Jah 6'1" | SF Bishop McNamara | 2023 #50 Nation FL and University of Illinois signee Cori Allen Cori Allen 5'10" | SG Montverde Academy | 2023 State FL . Another name to keep an eye on for Montverde Academy will be 6-4 junior forward Vivian Iwuchukwu Vivian Iwuchukwu 6'3" | SF Montverde Academy | 2024 State FL who holds offers from California, Kansas State, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Washington and several others. The Lady Eagles are 24-1 on the season and have an active six-game winning streak that dates back to January 16 where they lost to the top-ranked team in the nation Sidwell Friends (Washington, DC) 65-53.
The Westtown Moose are making their first appearance at the GEICO Nationals and are led by 2nd year head coach Fran Burbidge. The Moose come into play with a 21-4 record and have won eight consecutive games dating back to January 21 where they lost to Paul VI (New Jersey), 72-69. The Moose are led by Delaware combo guard commit Grace Sundback, junior guard Zahra King and 6-2 8th grader Jordyn Palmer who are all averaging over 15 points per game this season. Another name to keep an eye on will be 5-11 senior forward Joniyah Bland-Fitzpatrick who is committed to Seton Hall. While Westtown has had a youthful backcourt this season they are capable of making a run as they have recorded 20 plus wins in back-to-back seasons.
