The Sun Sentinel recently came out with their post season all county awards, naming King’s Academy Senior Janessa Williams Janessa Williams 5'10" | SF King’s Academy | 2023 State FL Palm Beach County 1A-5A Player of the Year.
Janessa Williams Janessa Williams 5'10" | SF King’s Academy | 2023 State FL wrapped up her Senior season with a tough loss to Cardinal Mooney in the semi-finals of the 3A State Tournament, concluding an impressive prep career filled with a number of individual accolades and one of the key contributors in making Kings Academy one of the top teams in Palm Beach county.
Williams led King’s Academy to a 23-5 record, leading her team in scoring (16.0 points), rebounds (11.8 rebounds), and 54% from the field while also snatching 1.9 assists and 2.2 steals per game including surpassing the 1,000 career point mark on Senior night.
Playing multiple positions all season, Williams consistently displayed her versatility, toughness, and ability to play physical. She was the team captain, leading her team vocally, emotionally, and by example night in and night out. Having watched her play over the course of the past 4 years, she was always one of my favorite players to watch due to the fact that she never took a play off and was always around the ball. Whether she was guarding someone 5’6 or 6’5, she competed and played hard and aggressive from jump ball to final buzzer.
King’s Academy girls’ basketball coach Chris Race said
“Williams brings intensity every single day, whether it is in practice or in a game. She just plays and fights for every loose ball, rebounds, and always wanted to guard the best player from the other team.”
The multi sport athlete recently signed a full scholarship to Long Island University in New York stating
“I like the coaching staff there and we have built a strong relationship already. I am super, super excited and I absolutely love the campus and the girls on the team. I am really excited to see where it takes me.”
