This week, we saw three players announce their college commitments, making that six total in our last two updates. Here’s what’s going on around the Garden State.
March 31: Ciera Cevallos – Montclair Immaculate (2024) commits to Fairleigh Dickinson
Cevallos made her commitment official just before the start of April as the 2024 prospect from Montclair Immaculate decided to stay in state, announcing her commitment to play at Fairleigh Dickinson.
Cevallos shined in the second half of the year for IC, recording four double-digit scoring performances in her final nine games of the season, including a season-ending 19-point game against Morris Catholic. About half of her scoring came from beyond the arc, so seeing her reprise that role with the Knights in college wouldn’t be out of the question.
March 29: Bailey Chapman – Sparta (2023) commits to St. Thomas Aquinas
Do not let her commitment fool you, Chapman is not heading to the STA high school program; on March 29, she announced she’ll be heading to DII program St. Thomas Aquinas in New York.
In the wake of Brynn McCurry Brynn McCurry 6'1" | PF Sparta | 2023 State NJ ‘s season-ending injury, players had to step up, Chapman being one of them, and she relished her time in the spotlight. She averaged a career-high 12.9 PPG in 30 games for the Spartans along with 4.4 RPG and 2.9 SPG, joining the 1000 point club as well.
March 27: Angelina Banas – Notre Dame (2023) commits to NJIT
We end with another player who decided to stay in-state as Notre Dame senior forward Angelina Banas announced on March 27 her commitment to play at NJIT.
She’ll be filling a great need as college programs are never not in need of frontcourt help. This last season was her best to date for Notre Dame, averaging 5.9 PPG and 6.1 RPG in 27 games as well as 0.4 BPG and 1.6 SPG. Her success didn’t necessarily show at the high school level, but her raw talent and ability superseded that. She’s a really intriguing future college prospect to watch.
