Legion Collegiate Academy Finishes 2-1:
The Legion Collegiate Academy finished the weekend 2-1 in North Myrtle Beach. Both victories came over Mount Zion Christian Academy (NC) while losing to Quality Education Academy 46-41. Legacy Early College vs Quality Education Academy will be featured in a separate article. The Lady Lancers finished the season at (19-12).
Tamia Watkins Tamia Watkins 6'2" | PF Andrew Jackson | 2025 State SC the #1 player in the 2025 Palmetto State had a solid opening round game in which she scored 17 points vs Mount Zion Christian Academy and then vs Quality Education Academy she dropped 15 points. Tamia left-handed forward has good length and versatility and seems to be getting a bit more comfortable trying to play on the wing at times. She has a good feel for rebounding the ball on both ends and especially outside of her area.
Nadia Burns Nadia Burns 5'10" | SF Legion Collegiate | 2023 State SC is headed off to Newberry College (SC) (NCAA D2) to play for the Lady Wolves next season. Burns has really reformed her body from a season ago and feels very comfortable playing more out on the perimeter. She was able to connect on some three-pointers this weekend. Nadia looks to be small forward at the college level and more of a tweener at times. She was able to handle the rock more than usual today than in the past.
Elyric James Elyric James 5'10" | SF Rock Hill | 2025 SC is a new name for the database in the years to come for the Lady Lancers. James really likes to set up shop out on the perimeter and knockdown the 3-ball. James settles for a lot of shots behind the arc. E’lyric for the season shot yes this is correct shot 54% (29-54) from downtown. James is just a sophomore for the Lady Lancers.
Senior Packing a Big Punch:
UNSIGNED Senior guard Jahniya Johnson Jahniya Johnson 5'3" | PG Mount Zion Christian Academy | 2023 NC plays on a team with just 6 players and not much support at all. Johnson originally from Penfield, NY (Near Rochester) has been at Mount Zion Christian Academy all season long. She previously attended Finney HS. Jahniya and her teammates lost a few lopsided games here this weekend.
Prep Girls Hoops witnessed a player who NEVER gave up or complained one second on the floor with the lack of support she has on her team. She has some serious game and a great deal of confidence to go with it. Jahniya was shifty with the ball in her hands and didn’t mind throwing in a few crossover dribbles along the way to the rack. She really understands on how to use her body to draw contact on the way to the rack.
Johnson scored 29 points and 41 points in the games we watched her play this weekend. She might need to entertain the junior college route for next season. Let me tell you this – don’t let the size scare you at all – she can play the game. SHE JUST PLAYS THE GAME.
Richburg Plays with SC LA Elite:
Janiya Richburg Janiya Richburg 5'9" | SF Loris | 2025 State SC was in attendance this weekend with her local grassroots team SC LA Elite. Richburg a left-handed forward from Loris HS averaged 12.3 ppg and 12.2 rebounds this season for the Lady Lions. Janiya is just a sophomore and plays the game to the fullest every time I see her play. Janiya will jump on the floor for a 50/50 ball, take a charge, rebound the ball outside of her area and just helps you making winning plays. She plays a bit off the grid in Horry County at times for the Lady Lions.
