Trying to replicate the elite skill she possesses while adding her own twist onto things that she sees fit. I would say that up to this point, she is doing a great job of that. Addyson is a combo guard right now. She has promising shooting ability all over the floor with the handling skill to move to the point guard position, if need be. At this moment I would say that she is more of a shooter but rapidly expanding her game at the same time. Over this spring/summer and into the the next few high school seasons I’m expecting Luvan to become a well-rounded ball handler that can control an offense, knock down a plethora of different types of jump-shots, and get her team a bucket when they need it the most. Currently she is on that pace and it’s exciting to see. I’ll be intrigued to see what height she grows to in the end but overall that’s not really going to matter as long as she is efficient in her scoring ability and an irritant on defense.
Jimara Combs Jimara Combs 5’8″ | CG Culver Girls Academy | 2027 IA is from Moline, Illinois but plays for the Lady Martin Bros UAA 2027 team out of Iowa. Combs is a promising prospect who shows great discipline on the floor. From a young age Combs has had a superior offensive ability compared to others her age. She has great size while having more of a guard skill-set. She can shoot off the dribble or catch, drive going either way to the hoop, and can use either hand to finish through contact. This is interesting to many looking forward because if she can keep expanding on all of her skill sets while getting bigger/stronger simultaneously, then she is going to be miles ahead of everyone at the high school level in a few short years. With her hardworking and dedication, this is something that is more then do-able.
The next two players I am going to talk about are twin sisters. Ari and Daya Phillips Daya Phillips 5’10” | CG Johnston | 2027 State IA . First we will start with Ari. Ari and her sister stand at the same size and have extremely similar skill sets. They both play off of each other in ways that is beautiful to watch. It’s almost like poetry out there on the court. From what I’ve seen I would say that Ari is more of the smooth and nature scorer of the two. She has a nice handle going either direction, can shoot from deep when she is given time, and possesses an impressive layup package near the hoop. Along with all this she is also a very intelligent passer and overall player. She does a great job of looking off her opponents before making a pass near the basket, making it more unpredictable. All in all, make sure you can watch these two in action. When they play, it’s something special.
The second Phillips sister I am going to mention is Daya. Like I said above, these two have extremely similar skill sets but I think that Daya separates herself as the player who is more of a facilitator for others while being able to rebound better then most around her. She understands when to draw in the help defender and give it off to an open teammate compared to when it is better to take it herself. When it comes to defense Daya is lock down. An on-ball defender who can switch from a guard to a forward, depending on what is asked of her. These two sisters are the truth. Two players that have high motors, work hard, and will be put in a position to succeed. Next season they will attending the #1 5A school in women’s basketball going into the season in the Johnston Dragons. As if the Dragons couldn’t get any better, they bring in two program changing talents like this. It’s going to be tough for everyone else in 5A over the next few season with the roster the Dragons are going to have on the floor.
In the next few season I expect Dowling High school to find a good amount of success on the women’s high school basketball court. A big part of that is going to be because of Alex Curtin Alex Curtin 5’10” | SG Dowling Catholic | 2027 IA . Curtin is a decently sized shooting guard with a smart head on her shoulders. She doesn’t settle for shots offensively but instead likes to drive past her defender for an easier look. She already has down a very consistent and effective floater from the middle of the lane once she gets there, showing it on a pretty regular basis at this point. She has a decent handle and does a good job of keeping her head up while dribbling. On both sides of the floor she is a constant producer for her team and I expect to see that continue this spring/summer season, going into her freshman year. If she can keep up the hard work and stay dedicated then it’s tough to see her not being a top player in the 2027 class out of Iowa in the near future.
