Many of these rosters are filled with players who are stars on their high school teams and attracting the interest of college recruits across the country. I was fortunate enough to catch some of this regional talent in person. Check out my analyses of five standouts from the showcase.
Howard is a long, athletic guard with good defensive instincts and fast hands. She is a quick and effective shooter with excellent ball-handling skills and passing abilities. As a versatile guard she can get a pull-up jumper in the wing position or weave through defenders to the basket. Her savvy passing abilities make her a great floor facilitator as well. Howard is a junior to watch.
Cecilia Kay Cecilia Kay 6’2″ | PF Bishop Fenwick | 2024 State NewE is an athletic, hard-nosed power forward with the strength and confidence to get to the rim. At 6’2, her wingspan allows her to float over defenders in the paint and disrupt opponents on the defensive end. Earlier this year, Kay became a 1,000 point scorer on her high school career at Bishop Fenwick. An effective scorer and all-around solid defender, Kay brings a strong two-way presence to her club team, the MA Huskies.
A top 10 player in the Prep Girls Hoops New England 2024 rankings, Lana McCarthy Lana McCarthy 6’4″ | PF Bedford | 2024 State NewE brings a strong post presence to the court at the power forward position. She is a strong rebounder who can deliver on a putback or create second-chance points for her teammates. McCarthy can set a strong screen on the offensive and stop opponents with her strong shot-blocking on the defensive end.
Jasmine Day-Cox Jasmine Day-Cox 5’6″ | PG O’Bryant | 2024 State NewE is an energizer and facilitator on the floor. She has great court vision and passing abilities and can move the flow of the offense with her speed an athleticism. A strong shooting guard who seems to be able to play taller than her height, Day-Cox’s confidence and smarts bring out the best of her teammates.
At 6’1, Olivia Rodrigues Olivia Rodrigues 6’1″ | SG Tabor Academy | 2025 State NewE brings strength and height to the shooting guard position. As a tall guard, Rodrigues can compete in the paint and on the dribble drive to the basket, and also pull up for a smooth jumper or long-range shot. Her ability to get her own bucket from multiple positions on the floor demonstrates why Rodrigues is the top shooting guard in the 2025 New England Rankings.
